In the days before Wannsee Conference (Nazis setting up death camps) but after the invasion of Poland where most executions occurred by firing squad, there were German tourists who would travel to partake in the firing squads. So the trauma is not universal across the human experience and there's some circumstances that would cause individuals to kill. Lynchings and massacres in the US, are examples of this occurring without a war to give cover to killings.

This is how unrest happens. Disinvestment. Poverty. Addiction. Gentrification forcing generations of Black and Latino residents out of their neighborhood and into areas across town.

Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

Philadelphia has had four major uprisings since 2020.

What's happening in Kensington; particularly at K & A; will soon trigger more unrest.

@NaturaArtisMagistra do you get that the unrest in Philly is analogous to the unrest in the West Bank just at a smaller scale than at the hands of one most advance militaries in the world? Sure the Philly PD fire bombed a city block in the 1980s, but that's just any weekday for the IDF.

If you have a problem with moving non-white people out of their neighborhood in Philly then you should be at least equally outraged by homes being bulldozed in occupied territories.

Terry Anderson ran for state senate in Ohio in 2004, I was working for a get out the vote (GOTV) organization and was responsible for some of the counties that the district he was a candidate for. Along with all the rest of the homophobia that GOP used in the election that year, Anderson's opponent ran ads that alluded that he was gay, because he supported LGBTQ+ community

@StillIRise1963 Austin is both part of the line of presidential succession and a key person if nuclear weapons are authorized to be used. Thomas is a legal wizard appointed to court to diminish individual liberties for the rest of his life. Austin could not be able to play his role, Thomas still can do all that he was expected to do while he's Weekend At Bernie's-ing around the SCOTUS building, even while decomposing.

The commander of Iran’s revolutionary guard, Gen. Hossein Salami, said Hamas’ war against Israel and attacks by Iranian allies elsewhere in the region are damaging Israel politically and militarily.
Israel “is alive only with American artificial respiration,” Salami said. Without U.S. support, Israel will fall into “a vegetative state and collapse,” he said. “This is near.”

whoa, hang on. I think this is the reason isn't fully federating yet. because the algo limits visibility of threads posts to threads users but not us, the vast majority of accounts would see a ton more interaction from other accounts than from other accounts. it would expose how much their algos serve and their top users over the interests of most users. I wonder if they saw that in their early testing.

Yeah, the fact that your FB feed originally was as your friends posted to ever more algorithmically manipulated to be toxic inducement of engagement, and they think that that is the way anyone wants their social media can't be exposed to any alternative - a feed that isn't algorithmically manipulated because the users will vote with their engagement to that less profitable part of the internet.

You can't lose your users if most of them are never given a choice

I can read the article without any ads. I'm using Brave browser on my Android phone. Is it that they used to be clogged with ads, like articles were broken up across 16 pages with a ad in between each page? That might have been the case for Cracked awhile ago but doesn't seem to be the case now.

Hey, Mastodon! Indiana's attorney general has created an anti-teacher snitch portal for people to report school teachers for being too woke. It allows you to upload files and everything!

There appears to be no safeguard against entering any text you want in any of the boxes, and no location/residence checking.

Dare I ask you to do your thing?

Honor is the biggest differentiator with Biden being far above average in the honor category and Trump being a black hole where no honor can escape his honor-gobbling gravity.

Who's the better person? That is a question asked by so-called independents every election, yet it's self-evident who is and it's not the guy who's racked up 91 charges across 4 indictments.

"In a stunning reversal, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-K.Y.) is urging the Senate G.O.P. caucus to vote against the bipartisan border security and foreign defense aid package. It comes after spending weeks helping a bipartisan group of senators craft it, and just hours after he spoke in favor of the legislation."

Sean,
@Sean@liberal.city avatar

@StillIRise1963 @retrohondajunki well, we shall see when the House passes a stand alone $17b Israel aid package and that goes through the Senate or not. If this occurs then Trump keeps the border crisis as a campaign issue while the war keeps escalating, with Biden appearing as impotent to the choices made by others. His 50 years in the public sphere has all the drawbacks without any of the advantages that were claiming would be why Biden was better than Sanders in '20

    I see your "feed the kids" and raise you a "feed the people (men, women, and children)" eliminate food insecurity all across the nation. I'd rather have my taxes pay for food than bombs.

    Sean,
    @Sean@liberal.city avatar

    @thepoliticalcat
    Yeah, I think that a camel's nose under the tent of a universal food benefit would lead to a universal basic income program. People don't want to pay for subsidies to already profitable industries, yet through the misdirection of concentrated benefit and diffused costs, that's what we have.

    Universality of a program is the killer feature, if Social Security/Medicare became means tested you'd see both disappear within 20 years as it became to be seen as given to the undeserving

    Sean,
    @Sean@liberal.city avatar

    @thepoliticalcat
    Imagine a tax credit given to a large segment of the population but not a majority, if it has zero barriers to be used by the people, then those people will come to assume they are entitled to it and it would political suicide to get rid of it. But let's say another tax credit was given with a plethora of hoops to jump through and it's for a smaller segment that is almost entirely exclusive to the first group. This is mortgage deduction (huge) vs Section 8 housing (small)

    Sean,
    @Sean@liberal.city avatar

    @thepoliticalcat
    This is why universal programs are far superior than anything that seeks to cherry pick and edit who is deserving and who isn't deserving. Food for all, and taxation that is truly flat, taxing all income rather than leaving the income that is primarily received by the wealthy to be taxed at lower rate or not taxed at all. If benefits are given to each individual and taxes are collected evenly from all the effective tax rate wouldn't need to be as high for the vast majority.

    A broad cross section of Germans are taking to the streets and the squares to protest the rise of the far-right in German politics.

    Their brilliant slogan:
    In English,

    I hope the slogan goes viral, whether in German or in translation. It reflects exactly what is needed: for lots of us to show up together, and not allow the far right fascists to take over.

    WE are the firewall.

    Sean,

    @CelloMomOnCars @nachtet
    I listened to a former staffer of the AfD, the primary focus of the far right parties, and he stated that there was an influx of racists and xenophobes when the party was center-right alternative to the CDU and pro EU stance that was shared by the opposition CSU as well.

    Dems and GOP share protecting the oligarchs, and Trump paints the problem being rooted in democracy. The racists captured the GOP, not a minor party in the US. Dems should abandon the oligarchs

    Sean,
    @Sean@liberal.city avatar

    @CelloMomOnCars @nachtet no, AfD shift was earlier than '22, around '15-'17. But what I'm saying is that shift beyond what's acceptable in Germany for a minor party can be publicly ostracized through direct actions that is happening rn, can't occur to the GOP despite being nearly indistinguishable from the AfD in rhetoric and policies being advocated for due to the GOP having slowly boiled the ideology of conservativism and replaced it with bigotry and authoritarianism

    "finally, i am not trying convince anyone of anything. they either can think, or they can't. and if they can't there is no point"
    You get how that is a very cynical perspective, that there can be nothing done, then why be abrasive to non-voters? Either persuade or do no harm, that is the choice, you are choosing the 3rd choice of being harmful in being deliberately off-putting. It's not just you it's the whole vein of #VBNMW who are not helping in an inevitably close election

    Sean,
    @Sean@liberal.city avatar

    @accretionist
    Silence doesn't help, but it doesn't hurt either, and as cathartic and righteous as it might feel, it just is counterproductive to be abrasive especially if you know they aren't going to be convinced by it.

    Attached is a podcast that explicitly asks of NH Libertarian party's chair whether combative online persona is effective communication for political success, and I disagree w/the libertarians here and see it as harmful to the cause utilizing combative framing

    Sean,
    @Sean@liberal.city avatar

    @accretionist
    Then there's nothing that you can do, but antagonizing those individuals is self-fulfilling prophesy that makes certain that whatever you do won't move the needle and then you can just shift blame on them for not being able to make the right decision through demeaning of those voters

    Either adjust your communication to be as effective as necessary or take the hippocratic oath and take a course of action that does no harm. Being abrasive isn't without harm.

    Sean,
    @Sean@liberal.city avatar

    @accretionist
    If those fools who don't vote are to be solved, they won't be solved by being abrasive is my point. If you truly believe anyone that is already on your side is too far gone, then simply don't waste your time, let them go with antagonizing them, but on the other hand if you are prioritizing that it's too important to let them go, then modify your message.

    No one who succeeded in persuasion has used your comm strategy, but those who have been successful met them where they are.

    Sean,
    @Sean@liberal.city avatar

    @accretionist Saul Alinsky, Nelson Mandela, MLK Jr, hell Mister Rogers knew that you can never move a person with the strategy you are using, with the assumption of failure that they are entitled fools who will never vote. If they never will vote then push them from your mind, don't get angry, just as you wouldn't get emotional about people's pets not doing enough to stave off fascism.

    Be at peace that you can't change their mind; or you can deep canvass, listen to them, and empathize w/them

    Sean,
    @Sean@liberal.city avatar
