This feels odd, since those platforms - for-profit, ad-driven - are from American tech giants, whereas Mastodon is free, open source software founded by a developer based in Germany.
I've been thinking of starting a new #GhostIO newsletter as a guide to encourage more women, PoC, creatives, activists, social entrepreneurs, etc. to join #Mastodon. You know, my people from the other place.
Problem is: I can't come up with a clever name for it. Out of desperation I've turned to:

I'm thinking of staying away from Mastodon/elephant specific terms maybe... in case I want to discuss other areas of the #Fediverse in the future... like #Pixelfed and #PeerTube for example.

Another week, another attempt to transfer my #Signal messages to a new iPhone.
I've got 30GB of data (reason: 3 years of baby photos + videos shared with family members 😅) and the estimated transfer time is 27 HOURS.
The 2 phones (old & new) need to be near each other, touching, with the Signal app open, for the entirety of the transfer. I've failed previous transfers by doing something as simple as turning off an alarm, ugh.
So I need to use a THIRD phone while this happens. Wish me luck!
@_elena woah, horrible. They don't offer a better way? Something like exporting an encrypted backup and allowing then to restore it on the other phone?
@oblomov haha I know! I was thinking of using alternate spellings for it, similar to the way people on the dead bird site would mention Msk and Trmp... so maybe Mstd*n followed by the 🐘 emoji?

I've been offline most of the week so apologies if you already discussed this, but the French government's report on children and screen time is such a positive boost for #Mastodon.
It recommends that at the age of 15 teenagers could start using "ethical" social media platforms - meaning Mastodon (but not Instagram, Snap or TikTok).
