@gedeonm ouf that sucks. Not the same significance/ importance but if it makes you feel any better, a Christmas card I mailed to a friend last year took 4 months to arrive (France -> Indonesia). This year I’ll mail it in early August to be on the safe side 🙃

I've been offline most of the week so apologies if you already discussed this, but the French government's report on children and screen time is such a positive boost for .

It recommends that at the age of 15 teenagers could start using "ethical" social media platforms - meaning Mastodon (but not Instagram, Snap or TikTok).

He did the exact same stupid things at Twitter over a year ago. Shitcanning employees and hoping the company could get by without them to support critical infrastructure. He’ll prob eventually do the exact same thing at SpaceX then we’ll have over 8000 orbiting, useless starlink satellites too.

It should be astonishing by now that Big Journalism keeps falling for Trump's political scams. But when it comes to political journalists, we're talking about people who have the attention span of gnats.

They're still doing stenography for even the most obvious BS, as the Post and Times headlines show after his patently meaningless "leave it to the states" abortion stance.

Trump doesn't try to fool the voters directly. He gets the press do it for him.

@dangillmor I noticed how several friends + notable authors launched new Substack newsletters in January 2024 - well after the moderation scandal that made headline news around the world. I was so baffled. Naturally I didn’t subscribe to them, le sigh.

On a personal note, I moved TWO Substack newsletters to and I couldn’t be happier

Tesla has texted or called me at least 10 times in the last month to offer incentives if I lease a new car with them after my Model Y ends at the start of May. They are quite litterally desperate.

If I chose to re-up with them I could get quite a deal. I’ve told their reps multiple times I won’t support Tesla as along as Elon Musk is the CEO of the company. Gotta wonder how long Tesla shareholders will put up with him in charge. https://mastodon.online/@electrek/112201815082910986

@gedeonm Good! When we were shopping for an EV I specifically forbid my husband from even looking at Teslas because of their abhorrent CEO. We are now leasing a fully electric Mercedes and we love it. It feels futuristic

@gedeonm Thanks 🙏 Here in Paris we see so many EVs now. There are additional incentives - like free street parking for the first 6 hours - that are driving lots of people to switch to EVs. And there are charging stations everywhere…

@caseynewton my theory about their dislike of news content is that they are preparing Threads to be a positive environment for advertisers… and advertisers don’t want their stuff displayed next to hard news. I wonder if experts on here have any views on social media platforms bypassing privacy controls and using phone accelerometer data for ?

I have Meta apps installed on an empty « burner phone » that is always home. Different Apple ID, etc.

I keep getting Instagram ads for « walking workouts » showing large women my age working out at home. Does Meta think I never leave my place?!?

(For the record, I average 10k+ steps daily and if anything I’m slightly underweight) 🤔

Reading reports from VisionPro developers saying downloads and income have dropped off dramatically since launch and they’ve either scaled their efforts on the platform way back or stopped outright.

You never can be sure how the public will take to a new product but in this case it was patently obvious. VisionPro is a solution for a problem that simply does not exist. It’s very premise for being is flawed. It’s also bulky, expensive and isolating for the user. Novelty fades, friction is high.

@dangillmor I would look at your security plugin first (if you have one - could be a firewall setting), disable it, clear the cache and see what happens. Then repeat this with all the other plugins one by one…
