We're very happy to use a free and open source, decentralized tool for chat - @matrix has been a great resource! Fedora contributors can easily connect with each other or outside communities with a single account.

All users who make a Fedora Account are able generate a related Matrix account from fedora.im.

ALL CLEAR for Fedora Rawhide and Fedora 40 Beta builds regarding the xz exploit. 👍

Things had stabilized soon after the initial security advisory, but we're now confirming that you can use Rawhide and Fedora 40 Beta safely as long as you have the latest updates or reinstall (which is not a bad idea to be safe).

Fedora 38 and 39 were never affected.

A very interesting #plugin #vendor asks me about a recommendation for a #reliable #laptop with a super #stable #operatingsystem as a base to be able to reliably package their plugins for #linux. What would you recommend? Maybe something like a #starfighter or a #framework or something more mainstream like a #thinkpad and probably running #ubuntu or #fedora? They are completely new to #linuxaudio but willing to go all in. ✨🌟

@amadeus here's a list of hardware that ships or supports Fedora. Framework is great and so is Slimbook, for which most of their laptops offer Fedora out of the box.

This is a very cool and easy to follow story of one person's personal needs for their server.

They start with assuming they stability as high as RHEL with consistent versioning, but over time containers erases that concern so they are freed up to think about other nice things like having newer software.

If you've wondered why people use Fedora Server when CentOS and RHEL exist, this is one reason!

🚨 ⚠️ Emergency PSA: A critical security exploit was discovered in the xz package recently, used for compression and decompression on nearly all Linux distributions.

Rawhide users ARE impacted and should immediately STOP using Rawhide until the package update is fully rolled back. (1/3)

Security Advisory: https://www.redhat.com/en/blog/urgent-security-alert-fedora-41-and-rawhide-users

fedora,
@fedora@fosstodon.org avatar

The vulnerability may be present in Fedora 40 but it is not believed to be activated. Fedora 40 users are advised to use caution and update their systems soon when the rolled-back version is available, for more certainty.

Fedora 39 and 38 users are not impacted. (2/3)

More details available from Red Hat's blog on the vulnerability. A special, huge thank-you to our first responders and Fedora friends who have been working long hours to address this issue in top-priority. We couldn't do it without you all! 💪 (3/3)
