@christianselig all mine were from the very first one (iphone 1). i bought it at t-mobile. had to get youtube working myself. ifile to the rescue! cydia upped the game a ton (thanks saurik). (thanks dev team). kept jailbreaking until, inevitably, apple added enough of the great innovations of jailbreak devs that i didn’t feel a need to anymore. still miss themes. not enuff to go the userland jailbreak hassle…

Been a heavy user of all the Twitter alternatives for a minute now and I gotta say Mastodon is my favorite. There are definitely some features I’d like to see here (like quote posts and a DM inbox), but the community on Mastodon seems to have the best vibe and there are so many smart techies that it’s been the most helpful for finding sources.

This is a subtoot of like nine different things at once, but, fellow progressive/left-leaning friends: please for the love of all that is good in the world just stop ranting about "capitalism". if you think some feature of our current market system is bad, just like, describe the market mechanism and the incentive it creates and the bad outcomes of the incentive. Criticizing "capitalism" is like criticizing "evil" at this point. it's so nonspecific and nebulous that it's counterproductive.

@glyph @Daojoan extracting more and more from a finite planet is, of course, inherently unsustainable, but going deeper, the whole idea of “profit” is unsustainable. nature doesn’t use it. all human economic systems are inherently flawed if they have profit as a thing. capitalism is just faster arriving at its end. a lot faster.

I'm shocked, shocked that we won't be able to keep warming to 1.5℃. Who could have seen that coming.

Business as usual will result in warming of around 3.4℃. My bet is we'll wind up closer to that than to 1.5℃, due to the fact that shortsighted, ignorant, selfish, greedy people run the world. I don't know if civilization can survive that kind of climate. I guess we'll find out the hard way.

Can be difficult not to under estimate the help one has received in life, & to over estimate self reliance & personal input

Isn't that the root of much selfish behaviour, thinking, voting, politics:
believing "I made it on my own"?

Maybe we should positively & nostalgically but clear eyed remind people of all & they got as children, /job market security, etc their parents had access to

    • We should suspend child labor laws (they claimed, incorrectly, that children weren't harmed by COVID)

    • The elderly have already lived long enough and should be willing to die now to help the economy.

    • The weak and compromised should be regarded as expendable.
