One bummer about #MacOS now is that you used to be able to be pretty productive with the built in software. Now in order to get real work done, you need to pretty much immediately replace every default app. Safari, Mail, Photos, Pages, etc. Preview is still a rockstar but it’s sort of depressing.
#Mimestream or #Thunderbird is a far better email client. #Photomator is what you want for an easy to use but robust photo editing tool, leaving #Photos in the dust. BetterSnapTool for a better Split View, #IINA for watching videos, #Hazel for file management.
Still great hardware but the utility of the stock apps drops year over year.
From the #itsabouttime dept, Amazon says that beginning in mid-2024, customers signing in to the AWS Management Console with the root user of an AWS Organizations management account will be required to enable multi factor authentication (MFA) to proceed.
"AWS will expand this program throughout 2024 to additional scenarios, such as standalone accounts (those outside an organization in AWS Organizations), as it releases features that make MFA even easier to adopt and manage at scale."
"We recommend that everyone adopts some form of MFA, and additionally encourage customers to consider choosing forms of MFA that are phishing-resistant, such as security keys."
@briankrebs for a long time there was no way for having multiple mfa devices. Which was bad for all of us using yubikeys as a 2nd factor. Jo way to setup a backup. Luckily that's resolved now. But not sure if root account can have multiple mfa devices yet though...
@vwbusguy last time I touched OpenSUSE in any form I regreted it. And few times before that. But luckily, I forget that soon so it seems I need to try it out again... :-)
Another important detail from Vaxry's blog post, in case it flew under your radar: he admits that he "should have just banned" the trans person who caused a stir rather than using mod tools to misgender them -- but the person who commented "LGBTQ is trash anyways" gets away with a temporary mute and a warning for unstated personal reasons between this person and the maintainer
@drewdevault why the f would they even discuss such matters in a tech project discord. Like if you want to discuss political, personal or other stuff, join communities that want to discuss that. I'm not particularly fond of those "in your face" folks. Like fine, have your opinion, but if I'm here to contribute some code, why would I want to be bothered by hungry kids in Africa or something irrelevant for me at that moment. Everything has its place and time...
The fact that new iPhones get rid of the physical silent switch would have annoyed Christian from 2 years ago because it's so tactile!
But Christian today knows that his grandmother accidentally flips this switch on her old model 8 and can't feel the difference, thus can't reset it, and now her phone is silent for days.
Being able to remove the mute-ability by reprogramming the button would be amazing.
@ctietze and it can be quite unreachable if you have the protective mask on. I liked the switch, but ever since I returned from Android a year ago, I haven't used it once...
But "Religion is a propaganda lie to abuse and control" is really unnecessary. Rotten organization or part of it are really not indicative of the whole religion.
Overly generalizing things and pulling things out of thin air is a cancer of the modern world I'd argue...
@theconversationau@qut@firusvg it is baffling to think that in order to make 6 figures you have to only know how to write and ask questions. I mean, is the bar really that low or are we just that gullable?
It sounds unbelievable though that there are more proponents for the snap. If we count all those that are not against as "for snaps" then it makes sense I guess. But I'd argue that's not a healthy outlook.
Anyhow, not disputing that there are many those who like snaps. And everyone that's not happy has the freedom to choose something else.
Debian is amazing, and if someone wants to get rid of snaps, we'll, there's a great alternative.
