hi. hello. :) i'm an illustrator in #scotland who draws good-hearted human beings, but i'm also obsessed with suprematism, proun, the cologne progressives, bauhaus, surrealism, abstract expressionism & 1920s/1930s (mostly #french) graphic design. to merge left-wing #politics with sustainability (i mostly work digitally) is my bag. would love to meet people with similar interests.

The Scottish parliament has released the division list for the no confidence vote. All 63 SNP MSPs and all seven Green MSPs voted for the government, and against the motion.

And all 31 Tory MSPs, all 22 Labour MSPs, all 4 Lib Dem MSPs and Alba’s Ash Regan voted for the motion.

'jazz is a good barometer of freedom.'

: he's one of my favourite people (along with my parge, who introduced me to his music), so i am compelled to draw duke ellington whenever the anniversary of his birth ( in 1899) pops up.

duke was full of wisdom, music, mystery & optimism. both of his parents were pianists, so he was naturally drawn to the instrument. his mum & dad did more than refine young edward's ear, though. [THREAD]

black & white digital ink drawing i drew of a dapper duke ellington, musical genius. he stands in a doorway, leaning against the frame & looking bemusedly at something to his right. there's a twinkle in each eye & a wee smile on his face. dressed in a spectacular pinstriped zoot suit, his abstract paisley tie offers contrast. diagonal text, in uppercase, forms an angle to the door frame. it reads: 'it's all i do is dream', which is something that duke said in an interview & has always stuck with me.

the popular front for the liberation of palestine, a marxist & revolutionary socialist organisation, was founded in 1953 by george habash. with fatah, they form the palestine liberation organisation.

: these words, a plea from teenaged rachel corrie (born in 1979) to her mother. in 2003, she went to & by the 16th of march, the monsters had killed her.
rachel's death was deemed accidental by an israeli investigation & the soldier who crushed her was exonerated...because of course he was.

: in 1939, billie holiday - born eleanora fagan on this day in 1915 - threw a punch with the release of her recording of 'strange fruit' - &, if she'd not persisted, it may not have been released until much later. columbia refused, at first (‘they won’t buy it in the south’), to let billie include it even though it had been a central & permanent pillar of her repertoire during her tenure at cafe society.

been staying in a secluded cottage which is heated solely by wood stoves & i've already really sunk into the pleasant groove of going out exploring all day, coming back in the evening, building a fire, making a lovely cup of tea & sitting back to admire my work, pretending i'm gazing at the whole goddamned establishment burning in hell.

couple of snaps from the places that fuelled my aforementioned fantasies.

up close & personal with iconic stac pollaidh, a marilyn munro in wester ross. moody grey & white clouds accentuate the graphic angles of the geographic marvel.
view from rented cottage in wester ross shows a promontory beyond green grass & waving fields, all under a bright blue sky streaked with wispy white clouds. to the right, a couple of birch (?) trunks, still bare from winter, accommodate two bird feeders (without any diners).
typical highland road through a typically heart-stopping highland vista somewhere near lochinver. a tidy set of black munros towers in the distance under a dramatic sky full of grey clouds as blue sky tries desperately to break through. a loch to the right is punctuated by islands, one of which shows off its inhabitants: a couple of tall trees.
