Native bee sleeps in bloom at sunset...

Overnight, the bloom petals closed up around the native bee.

Here they are at sunrise...

And one last glimpse as the native bee had breakfast...

Funny how future alumni donations are somehow meaningless.

@StillIRise1963 exactly. Shows which people and donations have meaning.

Many of us are familiar with imposter syndrome, but is there a similar term for having the persistent feeling that you’re letting the rest of your team/workplace down by not doing enough, no matter how much others in your team/workplace make it clear you’re doing (more than) enough?

thinking about rebuilding our public squares in a hybrid digital age

  1. encourage public entities to share public info on public channels, not private platforms

  2. embrace sharing in real life, use email, snail mail, private messenger, radio, newspaper, public forum, neighborhood scale gathering

  3. create and use nonprofit and publicly owned social sharing platforms, but prioritize real life sharing when possible

Our full moon sweat lodge ceremony rounds lasted until 1:30AM. Just got home. Crashing in few minutes. I have para-dragonboating practice in the morning.

Centaurea cyanus, the cornflower, under handheld UV light. This bloom's petals are white in the daylight.

Have you ever heard a young hummingbird's peep?

It's a cloudy, windy day in SoCal. I think this little hummer was just learning how to make its wings work. It landed near me and stayed for several minutes. The dad came by for encouragement but I couldn't get him in the frame. Turn on volume to hear its tiny peep despite the wind. It flies off at the end.

A tiny hummingbird in a garden surrounded by tiny sunflower like blooms of Rudbeckia triloba. The bird is perched on a small stem about a foot above the ground. Its colors are speckled browns, grays and greens.

A newly emerged Xylocopa, native Carpenter bee.

The noonday sun reflects on her back and brings out the iridescent coppers of her wings.

A great reason to be gentle with growing grasses and covers. This one was lucky the neighbor's landscapers were done leaf blowing.

I'm super excited about meeting these 2 Silken Wind Hound tomorrow afternoon! Never met this breed of dog before. My friend Lyrica is taking me for a nature walk tomorrow, shortly after noon. We're meeting up with her friend, who lives beside park we're going to hunt for wildflowers at & these are the 2 dogs coming out with us!

Expect lots of photos of nature & these rad dogs, after our nature adventures, tomorrow 😀

kellyromanych,
@kellyromanych@mastodon.social avatar

@msquebanh those are beautiful! I've never met the breed, but have had a blood hound and now an Irish Wolfhound mix. The wolfhound is gentle and being a sight hound, that means we're always careful he's on a lead so as to not chase wildlife and cats.

We've been nearly 20F below average, and urban tiny bees are here. This little Halictus was being blown about on the breeze while it visited the Phacelia. Even with adjusting the exposure before taking the photo, the lighting makes her look painted. The breeze makes her a bit fuzzy, and it looks like she may have been blowing a nectar bubble.
