  1. wonder why the power grid just shit itself

  2. explain why there’s massive food shortages because there’s no ag EVs in production

  3. even if you can harvest, good fucking luck distributing it.

  4. you live in an area relying on fossil fuels for power? Lol, die poor

EV stans are so fucking stupid. EVs are the tail, not the head.

Dumbasses.

I love EVs, but you can't ramrod them into place, otherwise it's just not gonna work long-term.

And oil companies won't close. Oil is more than gasoline and diesel, it's products as well.

Some of those products being extremely important and impossible to just say "tuff shit do without it", like medications and medical devices.

My request / ask for the week: send me your best burger recipes, techniques and tips! I'm grilling this year

kilroy_was_here,
@kilroy_was_here@dobbs.town avatar

@Daojoan

Don't think about timings too much, they depend too much on the grill, the weather, the wind, the amount of coals or how big the burner is, how big the burger is, etc. The golden rule is if it looks like something you wanna eat, pull it off. If it doesn't look like that yet, leave that baby on!

Relax and don't mess with them too much. If you flip them too much or move them around too much either you'll take half an hour to cook one or it'll be drier than a bone.

When I first got on the net 20 years ago, I was surprised to find myself talking with so many people with unique expertise and experiences. No conferences, tickets, reservations, or credentials required.

Then the myspaces and the facebooks and the youtubes overshadowed that internet. Their model is the same as television - dumb mass broadcast, not intelligent interconnection and interdependence.

One of the reasons I love is because here, that internet of 20 years ago is still alive.

I've loved The New Cambridge Modern History ever since I first found it - all two or three feet of it - at the library when I was a kid.

It ends at 1945.

I'm looking for a similar book or series to the Modern History which takes up the torch and carries it through the mid- and late-20th century. At least to the end of the Cold War, but which doesn't focus on it solely.

Any recommendations?

So I heard someone (Neil) describe 4 types of orbits, circular, elliptical, parabolic, and hyperbolic.

I'd argue in reality circular and parabolic are boundary cases that never exist in real life. So in reality all orbits are elliptical (though may be arbitrarily similar to circular) and hyperbolic (which also may be arbitrarily close to being parabolic).

@freemo

I'd imagine it's one of those things where it's useful in math and simulations even if it's an edge case in reality.

I’m not looking to treat Mastodon like WebMD, but there are a lot of smart people on here, so I figured I'd see if I can find anyone who has any idea what's wrong with me.

Back in August, I got a cold. It wasn't COVID, but it was a sore throat, runny nose, and cough.

After about a week, everything was gone except a mild, dry cough (almost like a tickle) that makes me cough several times an hour.

My breathing has also been weaker since the start, but not terrible. I don't have a history of asthma and I really only notice when I intentionally try to inhale and realize my lungs don't appear to have the same strength or capacity they used to have.

After about two months, I went to the doctor to ensure all was well, but she was just like "Sometimes coughs linger. Here's a prescription for allergies and acid reflux in the event it's any of those things."

I don't have a history of either, but I was willing to try anything so I took everything for a month, but the cough never subsided. I also had a chest x-ray which looked normal.

It's now been 4 months with this dumb cough and I feel like a baby for complaining when it's not THAT bad, but still annoying to have had a cough for that long, especially during a time like COVID when everyone is on high alert.

I should note that whatever this is doesn't appear to be contagious because I've been coughing nonstop for four months and my husband never got sick.

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this and/or what I can try to do to get this cough to subside?

I've had fragrance sensitivity pretty much my whole life.

I'd rather bring a barrel of nuclear waste into my house than anything from Bath and Body Works. I can't breathe just walking past one of those places.
