Also mehrere Millionen Menschen. Und es wurde nicht mal abgefragt, ob das mit Zustimmung geschah oder ohne.

Ungewiss bleibt also: Wie viele dieser 7 Prozent betreiben in Wahrheit bzw. ?

Experiment you can participate in too if you'd like:

Instead of posting duplicate content on Twitter or BlueSky, post everything on Fedi first, then just paste links to your Fedi post on those platforms.

When people reply, copy a link to their tweet and reply to your Fedi post, then reply to them on Twitter with a link to your Fedi reply.

Expose the people you want to interact with to this platform so much that they are likely to decide for thenselves to sign up.

If successful, we can probably shift some of the better Twitter users to Fedi. And they'll feel welcomed and engaged.

Win goddamn win.

Are you passionate about QA? Maintaining test infrastructure used to test #openSUSE and SUSE? Developing new #openQA features? We have open positions at SUSE https://jobs.suse.com/us/en/job/71005557/Automation-Framework-Developer

There's also jobs in other areas but I am obviously recommending QA since that's where I am at 😜️

P.S. You can choose to work remotely like me, or in one of the offices such as Sofia, Prague or Nuremberg

What I wanted from AI: hundreds of robot servants to automate away all my stupid, repetitive tasks, leaving me free to pursue the life of the mind.

What I expected from AI: self-driving cars maybe, at some point.

What I got from AI: a wrong-answer machine which steals money from me and is powered by burning the rainforest.

Burnout in the FOSS community is real, and I'm glad that it's something that is being talked about more in blogs and conferences. There is a different flavor of burnout and emotional toll when you are sacrificing for a cause you believe in (especially in FOSS where people are often working for free or at below market rate). Working for a cause you believe in brings the highest highs when things are going well, but the lowest lows when they go badly.

Microsoft recall is fucking insane.

Recall snapshots are kept on Copilot+ PCs themselves, on the local hard disk, and are protected using data encryption on your device and (if you have Windows 11 Pro or an enterprise Windows 11 SKU) BitLocker.

Your doing what? Microsoft wh-

Recall uses Copilot+ PC advanced processing capabilities to take images of your active screen every few seconds. [...]

[...] The default allocation for Recall on a device with 256 GB will be 25 GB, which can store approximately 3 months of snapshots. [...]

WHAT WHY NO ST-

Note that Recall does not perform content moderation. It will not hide information such as passwords or financial account numbers. That data may be in snapshots that are stored on your device, especially when sites do not follow standard internet protocols like cloaking password entry.

Microsoft please... th-the tech support scams... think about what happens if this gets bre-

Recall also does not take snapshots of certain kinds of content, including InPrivate web browsing sessions...

Oh, okay I guess that's san-

...in Microsoft Edge.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

It treats material protected with digital rights management (DRM) similarly; like other Windows apps such as the Snipping Tool, Recall will not store DRM content.

Ah, but of course. The DRM is protected...

For those who aren’t aware, Microsoft have decided to bake essentially an infostealer into base Windows OS and enable by default.

From the Microsoft FAQ: “Note that Recall does not perform content moderation. It will not hide information such as passwords or financial account numbers."

Info is stored locally - but rather than something like Redline stealing your local browser password vault, now they can just steal the last 3 months of everything you’ve typed and viewed in one database.

I got ahold of the Copilot+ software.

Recall uses a bunch of services themed CAP - Core AI Platform. Enabled by default.

It spits constant screenshots (the product brands then “snapshots”, but they’re hooked screenshots) into the current user’s AppData as part of image storage.

The NPU processes them and extracts text, into a database file.

The database is SQLite, and you can access it as the user including programmatically. It 100% does not need physical access and can be stolen.

How to tell your OSS is ridiculously popular: people aren't 100% sure they didn't embed it, and tack on the software equivalent of "packaged in a facility where peanuts were also present" to the license list.

This watch contains software, so statistically probably contains at least traces of curl.
