@rooster All my servers run plain Debian. But that can be a lot of work to get running on a desktop or laptop without endless tinkering and fighting with drivers. So my laptop and media/gaming PC run Kubuntu. It "just werks" and I happen to like KDE over GNOME. Not sophisticated reasons, but those are mine. :)

@brewsterkahle If it were up to me, it would be a little of both. protects work, so the big debate is "what is human work?" And it depends!

I "wrote" a TTRPG book with , going back and forth, giving it instructions, synthesizing its ideas/suggestions, and used it as a tool. Should I own the copyright on that work? I think so. I think that is fair.

I have an automated AI set up on a chatroom. Should I get copyright on its output? No, I don't think so.

Please, use to generate tons of that you otherwise couldn't.

But for the love of all that is holy, pay attention to what you are putting out. Read the output. If it doesn't say exactly what you would say, edit it! Make changes. Regenerate. Go through the process of making it good.

I truly don't think people hate AI content. They hate lazy content.

@malducin Similarly I think software and video game code should be entered into a kind of trust that the creating entity has exclusive control over. When the software is considered no longer commercially viable and is abandoned (effectively or explicitly) that trust is taken over by the government and entered into the public domain.

Recap: Trying to run dosbox on RPI4 using an old CRT monitor. MicroHDMI > VGA.

This is what I see when I run dosbox. Don't think that's right. The terminal in Linux looks fine. No desktop environment installed.

something to think about re: ... when you encounter bad or harmful speech, you have an obligation to counter it. don't be a loser titty baby that just complains that someone said something harmful. stand up and counter the shit. drown it out so that people can clearly see the bad speech. not only is free speech important to let marginalized people speak freely, it is necessary to allow harmful speech so we can confront it in the open rather than whispered and nestled in our hearts.

This last folder going onto backup drive #4 has been a pain in the ass. As you can see, there are 1.4 million files. The file explorer in Windows likes to fail a lot. I keep having to turn off/on the HD adapter, then restart the transfer. I'll be glad to have this over with. Then I plan on taring those blasted things.
