For the month of October, I'm participating in the annual #inktober drawing challenge. I'll be following some of the official Inktober prompts, but mostly the SciArt Inktober prompts. I will also be giving up my colorful inks and restricting myself to black ink.
Today, I'm following the #SciArtInktober prompt "lipid" and drawing some phospholipids.
Today's #SciArtInktober prompt is "Size". I decided to go with a type of circle packing that arranges the circles as they decrease in size, for my drawing. And again, I enjoyed playing with stippling.
@kristinHenry that's almost correct. That segmented mycelium is one of the main characters of a (very) big fungal group called Dikarya, it comprises of many known fungi to human, such as Penicillium, all kinds of mushroom, etc. You actually nailed the branching pattern, that's how they actually grow 😆.
Today's #SciArtInktober prompt is 'mutation'. I went with mutations over generations, but drawn as a bead curtain. Yeah, it's weird, but that's what happened today.
Today's prompt is 'element'. I started thinking about carbon, and electron orbitals, and the geometry of atoms...and I ended up with an abstract spiral of elements, with each dot representing the protons in atoms.
Today's #SciArtInktober prompt is 'half-life'. I decided to invert that and go more biological, with some little fishies that keep doubling their population.
Today's #SciArtInktober prompt is "vector". My brain decided to focus on disease vectors. At first, I thought mosquitos, but I don't have time to figure out how to draw one this morning. So, I'm drawing virus particles instead.
"Codon" is today's #SciArtInktober prompt, so I'm going with some Biochem inspiration and drawing an imaginary protein being formed from an mRNA strand.
Today's prompt is "ectopic", so I'm going medical with this one. An ectopic pregnancy is one in which the fertilized egg has attached outside of the uterus. It is not survivable without medical treatment.
Wow! Only a few days more, and then I get to play with colors again. Today's #SciArtInktober prompt is "osmosis". This was a tricky concept to visualize, and my drawing is a little boring today. Oh well.
Today's #SciArtInktober prompt is "transcription". As with many of the prompts this month, this one pulls me back to my student days. I was, and still am, completely fascinated by the molecular machinery of life.
I may have to try this drawing again, and get the curves a little more smooth.
This last prompt is "persistence". I was thinking about petri dish art, science, sexism, and politics. I thought about drawing this phrase on a pumpkin shape, but went with culture growth on a petri dish instead.
After a month of limiting my drawings to only black ink, I was hungry for colors. So, I'm starting this month of daily drawings with an orange flower pattern.
Instead of weekly posts, I'm switching to Monthly posts on my Patreon and Kofi. I'll still be updating them daily. Here are the links to this months #inkyDays posts:
Playing with one of the patterns from last month. Simple branching patterns can be a lot of fun to draw, until the last few branches. Then it can feel like it will never end, because of so much branching.

a collaboration with a Europe-based print shop to produce a limited run of licensed prints.
Yeah, I'm switching to making monthly posts for my daily drawings. The weekly posts were making time fly too quickly, so I've decided to try and see if I can give myself the illusion of slowing now...to de-stress and feel like I have more time and room to be creative.

Thinking about Aspergillus fungi while working on today's #inkyDays drawing. I even did another drawing on watercolor paper, and I'm thinking of adding it to my etsy shop.
I did not plan this drawing to fit with today's current events in US politics.
I organized the prompts last month. And I only came up with idea for the drawing last night. I've been looking at the prompts before sleeping, in the hopes I wake up with an idea.
However, with luck, or no luck, it is especially relevant given who the new Speaker of the House is.
