After running a #kbin instance for nearly 24 hours.. I'm already leaving my thoughts. Keep in mind this is a very new project and under heavy dev.

❎ extremely difficult to setup, not only bare metal but docker. S3 integration especially.

❎ small-ish community of devs so it will take time to find help. This will get better over time hopefully

✅ the UI and social features are great. It feels more like a community than Lemmy communities lol.

❎ federation seems worse than #lemmy.

Did you finally get KBIN S3 working?

I'm rebuilding my test server, which has the original Alpha docker setup. Everything is now 100% different from the early code base, so I can't upgrade, I must rebuild it. Once I get the test server working, I'll do the same with my production server.

I'm trying to set it up with S3, something that wasn't supported earlier, but it's not working. I'm wondering if you discovered something that isn't obvious?

I'm hoping to save some debug time.

@Jerry Hi Jerry! I wish I could give you good news on that, but I sadly gave up on debugging it (for now). I didn't get much on leads from the Matrix server either.

@weirdwriter Yes! they did a wonderful job on the frontend. Hopefully it gets better on the federation side.

@weirdwriter Since they're using activity pub, it wouldn't know to automatically add the CW. I'm not sure if CW is even part of the Activity Pub specification. Now I'm interested to know that myself.

@steve nope, sadly it's 3rd party project (dependency) that does things really weird and shouldn't be used with this type of project. (mini-rant lol)
