I feel like I've largely rebuilt the community I had on Twitter over here on #Mastodon and am just not interested in #BlueSky right now. I'm honestly disappointed that they deliberately chose not to have #ActivityPub compatibility. Also, I don't really trust Jack, either. He very intentionally pushed for Elon taking over Twitter. Going to BlueSky seems sort of like falling for your ex again because they changed their name from Brianna to Bri and started wearing a leather jacket.
@vwbusguy Mastodon hint: export the list of people you foĺlow. I got bumped off an instance because of hair-trigger moderation & the Mastodon archive you can get doesn't include who you followed.
I had a nice community experience. It hasn't fully rebuilt yet.
Let's also not forget that #BlueSky and #Nostr are still a Hail Mary pass attempt at finding a way to keep #crypto going. Instead of $8/mo for a blue check, you can drop some crypto. Is this really a better vision for the future of social media?
@vwbusguy this is not how it works. I've been on Nostr, and it doesn't require money/crypto to use it. And it isn't even crypto related. I am not saying it is wonderful, but keep the facts real.
@vwbusguy but this is not true. I can download any nostr client on fdroid and join right away. No money. And about usernames... it's optional, and twitter doesn't sell usernames (afaik only checkmarks), neither does nostr. Why do you need them? There are display names. It is just a protocoll with instances, I don't know why it is a big problem for you. + Like you wouldn't need a domain registered for money to redirect the string to the correct IP to your Mastodon instance in everyone's browser.
@Whizanth@gmate8 You're correct that #ATProto itself doesn't use crypto but that doesn't mean it isn't a planned thing for #BlueSky itself. Considering Jack is behind it and largely funded it with bitcoin, it's not hard to connect those dots.
@vwbusguy Leather jackets are sexy... shorter names are sexy.. could be a monumental personality shift. Could be precisely the change that was needed! BlueSky could be the revolution that Mastodon will never be! I mean they have an invite-only system, that's special. Gmail did that, and they succeeded. Even though today gmail sucks.. it was special you know.. SPECIAL SPECIAL SPECIAL!!! UNIQUE VIP VIP VIP.
