How to talk about the / without mentioning it?

Do people understand these buzzwords, or should we just talk about "follow" or "subscribe" and walk them through the process??

@pfefferle I dig @stefan's https://jointhefediverse.net as an intro to it all- have you seen it? I feel like it explains the whole thing pretty well, and simply? Maybe ideal for a first time user? Would be curious to see how someone unfamiliar with the fediverse would react to it.

@pfefferle @stefan @dansup absolutely! The directory at https://fediverse.info/explore/people is so easy to add yourself with hashtags, and to use. I think if more people used this, it would grow even more.

Woah, what an awesome Website for onboarding new Users to the Fediverse. 😱🤩👍

Very well made, I like the Way of guiding the User trough the Segments of the Site and explaining everything one Piece at a time.

Good looking Design with also good Text, definitely a Win for the Fediverse! 😁

Speak their language, but slowly introduce them to other concepts. Start by saying that this is structured in a more people-empowering way than single-owner sites. If they ask you to explain, you have an opening. If they don't, maybe drop in concepts here and there as they come up.

@tchambers let's be more concrete: when showing a list of followers or a following dialogue, should we mention the or ? does it help or does it confuse? Is it enough to simply say "follow me" and these are my "followers"?

@pfefferle I would go with “follow me” and “my followers” and not confuse new folks with protocols or not widely known terms like “Fediverse.”

Definitely Fediverse over ActivityPub.

The former is the platform that they are going to join, while the latter is just the language that makes the platform work.

It’s like saying join me at that coffee shop for a chat versus join me to speak some English.
