Is it common to make accounts for other instances to consolidate that hobby/interest to one single place? As I continue my adventure into the way Mastodon works, it's becoming extremely tempting. #instance#mastodon
@PixelCats Lol, very understandable. I have no clue how many I'll make, but I was thinking of having a "main" instance and then a few alts (art, writing, gaming, etc.) I'll probably switch to another "main' instance because the character limit is driving me nuts.
@foreverastudent That's what I've done, this one is good to have a load of techies in my home feed and a FOSS-related local timeline. Makes it easy to dip in and out of when I'm in the mood.
@proactiveservices Yeah, that's what I've been thinking. The mobile clients make this process super seamless. Though making lists and following other instances in my home feed also sounds like a very appealing solution. If you've tried both options, which would you recommend from personal experience?
@foreverastudent As long as the added complexity isn't too much for you I'd recommend it. I use the Web UI on Desktop and have a tab open for each, and Fedilab makes multi-accounts easy, including corss-account interactions. It can be a bit of a pain manually syncing Filters, though.
@proactiveservices It can't be worse than dealing with something like Arch or Nix, so I should be fine. I really like to customize and curate my experience. Thanks for the heads up! Hopefully it goes well, this is such an exciting platform to mess around with.
