@Teri_Kanefield i often think you must feel like a toothpaste tube. People traditionally like to shake their fists, can't parse situations that have greater than three steps, and think that throwing the book at someone, or putting them in jail is the same as evaporating them from this universe. Messy is real and so much harder.
@Teri_Kanefield I appreciate you! Going to lead a phonebank for @sisterdistrictproject right now, and I also appreciate your encouragement of such direct actions. ✊
@Teri_Kanefield please keep doing what you are doing. I really look forward to reading your analysis of these court events as they unfold. I’m a legal simpleton so this is so helpful to me
@Teri_Kanefield
I admit I don't reply much, because I don't have much to add. But I feel now would be a good time to say I really appreciate you and what you do, and I'm sending you energy and strength to try to overcome the rageboys and their nasty comments.
@Teri_Kanefield don't think for a second that i do not value your reporting. Or your analysis. I am just so tired and angry that #45 keeps getting a pass. He can post his vile screed and not get a push back in any realistic fashion. I feel like just giving up and booking a 1way ticket to
Zurich.
@Teri_Kanefield you are a such a wonderful source for information. I have learned so much. I have never in my life had such respect for lawyers. I also know that ethical lawyers who truly love the rule of law are on the frontlines of this war. Thank you.
@Teri_Kanefield My husband and I were discussing the fact that we as a society tend to vote in the worst to represent us. Why are we voting in narcissists and sociopaths?
@Teri_Kanefield While your posts may anger a few who just want to be angry, for many of us your posts are the rationality in this sea of hype news and sound bites. You’re also a huge help for us non-lawyers in parsing through all the legalese that otherwise might be misunderstood or misinterpreted. Thanks for all you do. It would wear down the best of us.
@Teri_Kanefield Remember, you don’t owe anything to us (your readers). And you don’t owe consistency/continuity anything either (eg “keep doing…”). Yes, we are enjoying what you are offering. But you should only do it if you are also enjoying doing it. If you stop, or take a break, or rant a bit, great. You don’t even owe us an explanation.
@Teri_Kanefield take care of yourself democracy needs people like you moving along, moving along not haggard and frazzled.
We will still be here, so will everything else.
🤗
@Teri_Kanefield Everyone is worn out from his never ending saga! Appreciate the explanations on the law and I’m beginning to enjoy reading the legal docs and listening less to the talking heads, but now I can picture his madness continuing far into the future!!
@Teri_Kanefield well-informed, thoughtful takes like yours are an oasis of calm in the intellectual dust storm of the internet, all too rare and frankly, priceless. If you are worn out by all means take a break--we will still be here when you get back.
@Teri_Kanefield you would not get more love from me! I turn to you (and, interestingly, Heather Cox Richardson, whose book you are reading) for reasonable and balanced thought and deep knowledge.
@Teri_Kanefield Retired AUSA here 👋 I read your analysis & don’t comment because I never have anything to add. I haven’t thanked you though. I appreciate your time, effort, & reliability. Please continue if you can 🌈
Be assured you are being assailed by a vocal minority. The vast majority here understand that getting at the truth is essential and we applaud your straightforward honest analysis of these matters.
You say "self-pitying", I say "being aware of your mental state, knowing that you could use some positive energy just now, and coming out and asking for it."
[I don't know about you, but I was raised with some stigma relating to being open about mental health, and as you can tell I'm currently going overboard going the other way. :-) ]
@Teri_Kanefield - There is no better source of clearly thought-out legal analysis than your postings. Your repeated emphasis that the system is intended to protect defendants, even in the face of odious behavior, is a welcome reminder that we all should keep fairness foremost.
@Teri_Kanefield There’s not much I can add to all the positive comments other than another thank you. You have added so much value to my thinking. Showing the human cost of such analysis is a reality I appreciate.
Out of curiosity, do many of those angry comments come through Mastodon?
@Teri_Kanefield Genuinely considered doing a witty joke that might have made you smile, but honestly? I think you're probably dealing with enough stress and other factors, so I'll just repeat what others say- I appreciate what you're saying and doing.
Also while I haven't encountered anything (off the top of my head) that I seriously disagree with, I reserve that right in the future, and I can do that while -still appreciating- how much effort and time you put into everything.
@Teri_Kanefield I, for one, very much appreciate your writing and analysis. The real world is always harder and more complicated than people would like it to be, but you are doing me a great service by explaining your corner of it.
@Teri_Kanefield emotions are all a lot of folks have on this . And some of those glands driven toots back at you are thirsty for an algorithm that isn’t here to be part of a viral surge and 15 pico seconds of fame.
@Teri_Kanefield I appreciate your work. And I love the fact that someone so knowledgeable and thoughtful is actually willing to engage with randos like me on stuff. Thank you.
@Teri_Kanefield When I was first trying out mastodon, coming across your profile is one of the things that sold me on the platform. I really enjoy your posts!
@Teri_Kanefield True that is much easier but that’s “influencer” territory and definitely not your lane. Your herculean efforts are evident and much appreciated.
You are often the first account I check to see what is new in the DOTUS fiasco. (And I am an attorney. I find you get things right, which is why I've allowed myself to trust you.)
@Teri_Kanefield I recommended your blog to my brother, an attorney. Like him, I get it that laws and the constitution are rules we get to work with, even if they are frustrating at times. Thanks for explaining the rules so clearly.
@Teri_Kanefield I know you don't need to hear this to keep working, but I'll say it anyway: The information and analysis you provide helps me remain thoughtful and curious, not enraged. I honestly needed a little help with that, and made the effort to move to mastodon & select my influences so I could get back to thinking. You were chosen, not thrust into my feed by an algorithm. All of your followers here chose you. Thank You.
@Teri_Kanefield I feel you. If I had the integrity of cable news doctors, I'd be a WaPo columnist and paid CNN contributor by now— all I'd have to say is that the "pandemic is over" and that "we have the tools"
Your youngest is to survive. Including college. I'm rooting for him.
We--your many appreciative fans--love you. There will always be losers and people who scream before they think. C'est la guerre. 'Twas so 50,000 years ago and is now.
Consider that I at age 75--in great part thanks to your crystal clear prose and equally clear thinking--had the courage to read 80% of the NY court ruling and understood a lot. Very cool! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
@Teri_Kanefield People don't realize what the rage merchants are doing to them. When I took them all out of my feed, and stuck to the people like you who speak knowledgeably and temperately, my stress level went down A LOT. A constant refrain of "GET ANGRY! ANGRIER" is just really bad for us mentally. There should be a self-help book, "Unfollow Your Way to Mental Health."
@Teri_Kanefield I've learned so much from you, not just about the law but about how to read/listen more critically. You are always entertaining as well as informative. I understand why you are worn out but so many of us appreciate you. You are one of the few people I have notifications set for so I know when you post.
You say the Revolutionaries had a particular hatred for Britain's Sedition Act and yet John Adams sought and enforced the Alien & Sedition Acts PDQ (or was it Sam no I'm pretty sure it was John)
anyway
so at least one of the Revolutionaries unlike Biden probably would have just slammed Trump in jail on Inauguration Day 2021 so how can I trust anything you ever say ever again, Teri?
