Important things you need to remember about the struggle for freedom are that it will be ongoing and you can NEVER GIVE UP. People are all the same. And, no group of people has the right to abuse another group of people through violence and lies. The group abusing all groups are the wealthy.
@StillIRise1963 When I am discouraged, I remind myself that our forebears never quit. It took over100 years for women to get the vote in the US, and we are still fighting for autonomy and equal rights. The US Civil Rights movement has its roots in slave rebellions that began in the 17th century. It still has not achieved its goals. The pace of justice and the fight for freedom is much slower than many acknowledge. People suffered and died to get us where we are now. Never give up!
Seriously heard someone saying they don't listen to many black artists, because they aren't really into rap. Bitch please, feel free to share songs from Black artists from any genre. Here is one of my favorites, if you like this song please check out her other work:
“Paul Manafort, the longtime Republican strategist and chairman of Trump’s 2016 campaign, who had assumed unpaid role advising party officials on the nominating convention, has stepped aside.
Manafort’s move came after NYT reported that he had been on the ground in Milwaukee last week for planning meetings for the convention, as well as a Washington Post story that said he was involved in work connected to foreign officials and businesses.”
@GottaLaff Good riddance!
I hope that someone continues to keep a close eye on this guy. It's my understanding that a lot of his work, if not most of it, has been done under the radar. He's been a presence in GOP politics for 50 years. Doubt he will quit now.
@lydialurch
I dedicate "Maggot Brain" by Funkadelic. Some might take offense at the brief vulgarity in the spoken introduction. Move past it to one of the most incredible instrumentals ever written. https://youtu.be/JOKn33-q4Ao?si=YCNB_y8TA2ljELJM
@Waitnwallflower Kennedy Jr also stated that he suffered from mercury poisoning, but now he claims to be in robust health. It's well known that, among other things, mercury has harmful effects on the nervous system, including brain damage. Again, this would explain a lot.
...a three-judge trial judge panel sided with a group of 12 self-described “non-African American” voters who alleged that their “personal dignity” had been injured because the new map with two Black-majority districts “racially stigmatizes,” “racially stereotypes” and “racially maligns” them." https://www.cnn.com/2024/05/06/politics/louisiana-congressional-map-voting-rights-act/index.html
@LindaCollins11 Every flipping day for the last 8+ years!
I'm old, and I can tell you that no one has ever dominated the news the way he does. It's unhealthy! I can only hope that I live to outlast him.
@maddad@LindaCollins11 I believe it was his niece, Mary Trump, who said that the US would run out of beer if he was indicted for stealing classified documents. So far he's indicted but not convicted and there's plenty of beer on the shelves. I can imagine a huge run on adult beverages when he's gone forever. It will be champagne for me. The really good stuff.🥂
@toddedwardson@thepoliticalcat Trump was not very happy with those $40K donations, even berating those who gave that amount.
"Anyone who makes a $1 million donation right now to the Republican Party … I will let you come up and speak,” Trump declared, per The Post. Two donors went on stage and one proclaimed: 'Donald J. Trump is the person that God has chosen'."
Campaign financing reform is desperately needed!
Remembering my brothers on their birthdays.
"Nothing you love is lost. Not really. Things, people—they always go away, sooner or later. You can’t hold them, any more than you can hold moonlight. But if they’ve touched you, if they’re inside you, then they’re still yours. The only things you ever really have are the ones you hold inside your heart".

I consider him a kind of idiot savant. Generally he's impaired intellectually, socially and emotionally, but he has a few "talents" that he has successfully exploited for personal gain.
Climate change is leading to increasingly severe weather. Impacts worsen water management, reduce agricultural productivity and food security, damage infrastructure, and disrupt essential services.
The former guy couldn’t get one infrastructure deal done in 4 years. Biden oversaw the most significant deal ever.
@Tony Stark@progressivecafe.social It's telling that even during the previous administration the US military continued its mission to prepare for climate change. Military has long known that its infrastructure is vulnerable to extreme weather and other climate driven threats. It's a national security issue.
Glad to see our President making resources available for vital projects in the civilian realm.
@3dogcouch When this happened one of my brothers, a Kent State freshman, was on the campus, while another brother, a US Marine, was in the jungles of Vietnam. I was far away from both of them. There was nothing I could do. My heart was shattered, anxiety through the roof.
Recently, seeing police response to protests, my thoughts have turned to that horrific day.
It's nearly May 4th again. Kent State will commemorate the 54th anniversary of the massacre next week. #NeverAgain #KentState
I’m glad Kristi Noem is getting hate for killing a dog, as she should be, and I want to make sure folks know she’s terrible for lots of other reasons too
-Cutting lunch programs for low income kids
-Making SD hostile to trans people
-Banning abortion
-Racism
@dramypsyd May I add that Noem is permanently banned from entering some tribal lands. 14% of her state is off limits to her after she claimed that drug cartels were connected with and encouraged by tribal leaders.
Not fit for governing at any level. Hoping that this horrible story about the dog will end her political career.
Reading through a thread about dissatisfaction about today's world I came across a reply where someone said something about it's ok because the real world is when they will be in heaven.
My problem with that way of thinking is that it removes all the responsibility to make any attempt to help improve the world.
I wonder if those people are the ones who literally walk past homeless people and think, it's ok. They will be in a better place soon...heaven awaits.
@Snowshadow
I saw that too. 😔
Some Christians, notably evangelicals, use it as an excuse to abuse the earth and deplete resources. In the extreme it makes even criminal acts against humanity acceptable, because true believers will be forgiven.
Not religious, but my Sunday school taught that we should love one another. Also that we are stewards of the earth and must care for it.
How selfish that some are concerned only about their imagined life in heaven, while people suffer and Earth burns.
We had a terrible traffic jam in #finland#today. Especially in #Helsinki. Busses were late or they didn't arrive at all. Trams didn't work. The last time something similar was experienced in #Helsinki more than 50 years ago.
@KissAnne It's OK, my friend. I have lived here for four years now, and have developed strategies to avoid a lot of the traffic problems.
There are more than 14 million cars in the state, and more than half are in LA Country next door to us. 😳
“America Loving Protesters should be allowed to protest at the front steps of Courthouses, all over the Country, just like it is allowed for those who are destroying our Country on the Radical Left, a two tiered system of justice,” Trump continued. “Free Speech and Assembly has been ‘CHILLED’ for USA SUPPORTERS. GO OUT AND PEACEFULLY PROTEST. RALLY BEHIND MAGA. SAVE OUR COUNTRY! #AureFreePress#News#press#headline#GOP#Politics#uspol#Trump#BreakingNews#Breaking
@Free_Press Ridiculous of course to allow protestors of any kind to occupy courthouse steps during business hours. Courts have important business to do, often within strict time frames.
There is ample protest space across the street from NY courthouse where trump is being tried. Unfortunately today
per NYTimes:
"Inside Collect Pond Park, across from the courthouse, a lone pro-Trump protester’s “Trump for President ’24” banner flaps meekly in the light breeze."
😁
Reflecting on Columbine, 25 years later, a survivor writes: "When a door plug falls off a plane, we ground hundreds of planes and investigate. When it’s believed a car battery might cause a fire, millions of vehicles are recalled. When a batch of lettuce isn’t processed properly, we remove it from the shelves and the FDA posts a warning. We regulate, investigate and set up systems and protocols for safety in this country for nearly everything — except guns. We’ve set up a national hotline for suicide prevention, but nothing exists to report suspected would-be mass murderers. Why? Why do we refuse to do better?
If we’d taken mass shootings seriously 25 years ago, how many children would be alive today? How many families’ loved ones? How much blood has to be spilled before it’s enough? Will our collective empathy ever kick in?
@KeithDJohnson LA Times editorial recently said there have been 350 intentional school shootings since Columbine. Hundreds have died. Tens of thousands of kids traumatized by direct exposure to gun violence.
It's a blood red stain on society. We must find the will to stop the slaughter.
