I definitely hope this doesn't come across as "what took you so long?", because you're probably going to get a few of those, but I would appreciate it if you could give some thought to, and answer, "what did Twitter have that Mastodon lacks, that kept you going there?".

It could be as simple as "switching is a pain", or "not enough cat videos" (which is what keeps one of my friends on insta).

Because if it's things we can fix, they're worth knowing.

It's a valid point. But sometimes I think it's worth engaging with them for others to see. It's exhausting, but I think it's good when non-participating observers see that they get pushback.

Good morning from baby goat land! Still just the 2 babies so far, but 1 mama goat is due today and 1 tomorrow, so there should be more soon!

(I hope they have them earlier rather than later, toward the end of this week I have to spend a bunch of time on campus...)

Because the Koch foundations can keep pumping out new stuff longer than you can keep refuting it. If you're never willing to stop taking the bait you're just going to keep spinning until you fall down dizzy.

But I gotta say that your model seems like a good one for when different sides are all acting in good faith. I take your note that we can't just assume that those we disagree with are bad faith actors, there is currently a very large and powerful grouping that is.

And we cannot ignore them. Any media practice has to decide how to engage with them - only dealing with the "good" opposition will fail.
