guy who doesn't do anything is surprised that other people's jobs actually involve doing things

ashmueli,

@pshadov @NeoNacho whatever he does, it does not involve understanding what 1,500 of his employees do or don’t do, or what it means about him

ashmueli,

@realTuckFrumper So much sympathy to the lady who accused Israelis of raping Palestinian women, but when confronted with terrorists rape of Israeli women on 11/7, accused Israel of using what happens to the bodies of women for political gain. A tenured professor at the Israeli Hebrew University.

To her, as a feminist no less, Jewish women raped is part of a Zionist plot by definition. She deserves all the empathy she has to give.

I took some time to think about the Ronna McDaniel hiring and firing.

The result is that I have written another blog post that has me going against the current.

https://terikanefield.com/the-ronna-mcdaniel-story/

If you get the error message, wait a minute and try again. It's Mastodon's fault! This doesn't happen with any other platforms.

Some news: I may be back in Nevada doing voter protection work with the Nevada Democrats after several cycles in Georgia. A little closer to home.

ashmueli,

@Teri_Kanefield I had to stop watching MSNBC a couple of years ago. I felt very strongly that I could not watch any longer, but thank you for giving me the right framework and terminology to understand why something that sometimes feels so “right” (whenever the drug hit) was really so wrong. Especially with Rachel Meadow: I enjoy a good righteous sermon, but grew to hate the preaching.

"Unfortunately, a recent software update was not successful. Your vehicle cannot be driven.

Please call customer support"

ashmueli,

@kentindell @nuthatch @danluu But this is not an alien concept, right? Not all computing is end-user tablets. We use computing to fly to space, run trains, medical equipment. Do we see screens like this a lot in the operating room?

ashmueli,

@kentindell @nuthatch @danluu Well, engineers are there to solve the problem based on its environment, not to let cars fail on software upload because it, maybe, rained. What you are REALLY saying is that the automotive software industry is choosing tradeoffs that will leave some people stranded.

ashmueli,

@kentindell @nuthatch @danluu Are you saying there are no tradeoffs in engineering? Are you saying there are no tradeoffs in automotive engineering? Are you saying this screen, displaying an error message designed to fit the situation, is somehow not subject to tradeoffs in engineering?

The Difference Between Antisemitism and Anti-Zionism?

image/jpeg
image/jpeg

ashmueli,

@alkeddie This is such an old canard. (Very old. Mid 19th century old.) Zionism is the idea that the Jewish nation deserves self-determination same as any other nation, in its ancestral land. Anti-Zionists either deny Jews their nationhood or deny the Jewish nation the right to self-determination. To say nothing of the fact that Israel today is home to third and fourth generation Jews in the land, who deserve their self-determination independent of the overall Jewish issue.

ashmueli,

@alkeddie I’m not apologizing and so I’m not an apologist. I am, in fact, a Palestinian Jew. I was born there, my father was born there, and I have the naturalization certificate of his father before him. (Not that most Palestinians would care at all.) My point, which I tried to make very, very clear, is that anti-Zionism IS antisemitism. Always has been.

Meta has engaged in a “systemic and global” censorship of pro-Palestinian content.

In a scathing 51-page report, Human Rights Watch documented and reviewed more than a thousand reported instances of Meta removing content and suspending or permanently banning accounts on Facebook and Instagram that were supportive of Palestinians https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2023/dec/21/meta-facebook-instagram-pro-palestine-censorship-human-rights-watch-report

ashmueli,

@taylorlorenz this was true 14 years ago and is far worse today: https://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/20/opinion/20bernstein.html

Is Israel losing the social media war?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O48XUHCzd_s

ashmueli,

@AnthonyFStevens @jhavok @NoBeerToday @DavidBruchmann It’s a lot more, yes. My point is he is not more the cause then he is the affect. You will not solve this by pointing out that there is hate on both sides. One side happens to be more successful at protecting itself from the hate. It’s there.

ashmueli,

@AnthonyFStevens @jhavok @NoBeerToday @DavidBruchmann

Who created, funded, encouraged and supported Hamas?

I think you would like to say it was Netanyahu, which of course would be a lie.
He did have a policy to encourage Hamas at the expense of PLO as a way to divide the Palestinians, weaken the PLO which he considered a bigger threat. He did not create Hamas, an offshoot of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood, any more than he created Islamic Jihadism elsewhere….

ashmueli,
ashmueli,

@AnthonyFStevens @jhavok @NoBeerToday @DavidBruchmann There was an attempt to organize the Palestinians in Gaza along traditional families line, to combat the PLO and other non-religious ideological terrorist organizations. It’s possible that is what morphed into Hamas. What turned Hamas into what it is today is not Israel. Again you are nit-picking little bits and construct them into a fake narrative.

ashmueli,

@AnthonyFStevens @jhavok @NoBeerToday @DavidBruchmann In fact, to this day, the divisions in Gaza, where they have Hamas, used to have the PLO, have Islamic Jihad and other organizations, the true organizing principles there are still, to this day, by extended families (Hamulas) and the parties and organizations are just cover on top of that deeper organizational, social principle.

ashmueli,

@AnthonyFStevens @jhavok @NoBeerToday @DavidBruchmann do things sometime turn badly? Of course. Was there some nefarious plan by which Israelis constructed a monster so it will kill and rape and maim its own citizens, because they are deranged racist criminals? No, I don’t think so, but good luck persuading someone else.

ashmueli,

@AnthonyFStevens @jhavok @NoBeerToday @DavidBruchmann I tried to answer each of your questions. What can I say, the world is messy, and so are the people you have a dialog with, I guess.

This is not a deposition.

ashmueli,

@AnthonyFStevens @jhavok @NoBeerToday @DavidBruchmann thank you for not overwhelming me.

You made some factual claims. You also expressed some inferences. I did not dispute the facts. I specifically told you what I reject is the way you seem to thread them and what you think they imply. You conveniently do not state your actual thesis. I think you should start with that and then go from there to supporting “evidence”, rather than the other way. Go ahead. State.

ashmueli,

@AnthonyFStevens @jhavok @NoBeerToday @DavidBruchmann yes or no: are you willing to state your thesis on the matter first, then state facts as supporting evidence? This is not math. You can’t build a proof or persuade by building from facts on top of axioms, and even math proofs benefit from stating the thesis first. So humor me and state your thesis? Yes or no?

ashmueli,

@jhavok @bdsint @AnthonyFStevens @NoBeerToday @DavidBruchmann of course it was, but most importantly, it came first. The time axis matters.

Wow. Last night in Tel Aviv, calling for the resignation of Benjamin Netanyahu.

ashmueli,

@HeavenlyPossum @NoBeerToday @rochelimit @sxpert No, sorry, this is BS. There was a war raged by many, many states. There was no question a bout the fate of the Jews if they did not persevere. It was pretty clear. You are now blaming the Jews for defending themselves, or for doing it successfully. Nope.

ashmueli,

@HeavenlyPossum @sxpert @rochelimit @NoBeerToday the PLO recognized Israel for negotiating with it but did not recognize its authority to manage its own immigration policy. All peace talks stalled over the individual “right of return” to Israeli territory. So, no.

ashmueli,

@HeavenlyPossum @NoBeerToday @sxpert @rochelimit Israel did not reject the partition plan. The partition plan was dead a day after its Declaration of Independence when the attack on Israel started.
