I should really not be allowed to buy clothing anymore. I own zero nice dress shoes aside from docs, but have managed to waste money on a designer rhinestone jacket and pirate skort over one month. Neither of which I can justifiably wear for work, or anything practical.
I might know a thing or 3 about people judging me by my looks (I did this to myself on purpose afterall).
You are rock solid in what you do & if someone is going to clutch their pearls over a rhinestone jacket they are also the sort of person who thinks McCafee is enough.
I don't give a fig if they have a birken, can they do the job?
But then I do that look nearly homeless & go shopping for big ticket then go with the person who didn't blow me off thing.
@hacks4pancakes The question is, do these things make you happy? If they do, that’s a win. Who cares if they’re practical? Not everything has to be work appropriate or practical.
Besides, do you actually need dress shoes that aren’t docs?
@hacks4pancakes I dunno, that punkdazzled jacket is pretty damn cool, and while we don't know one another well, it does seem to pair with you well!
You can mix it up and buy some Solovair boots instead of Docs, so you can say you don't just have Docs ;) I love my Solovair boots (and they have big foot sizes that I appreciate).
@hacks4pancakes@evacide had not considered that point; that sounds like something I would not expect from Fluevog.
I will be of limited help; sadly, I am still exploring my own pain in finding shoes I like for the men's side, so there is definitely a limited side for me there.
And I definitely do not know your tastes :D
My personal pain rn is finding men's trousers that will work well with my Verillas boots. (Can recommend though if you look for that kind; they do heeled and flat, no gender)
@hacks4pancakes@evacide I uh... I relate. I definitely do not have a long list of things to buy over time slowly. The advantage is that they last for long, so I feel ok buying one at a time :D As I will still have the first one when I reach the end.
Also, definitely not a problem I have with Volante... I mean, at least now I have a Vest game, I guess. Has done amazing things to how people react to me :D
@hacks4pancakes@evacide Well, afaict they resell well on eBay and the discord has a few people that would probably love to get hands-on it :D Ways to fuel the addiction :D
@hacks4pancakes now I'm confused, this definitely looks like something you could wear to work? I guess it's not great if you're in the field and requiring protective gear?
@hacks4pancakes I don't understand when my friends buy those pricey purses but it makes them happy. 🤷 I'm sure they raise eyebrows when they see my stationery collection and hacker gear. The bags I have aren't cheap but mainly because the cheap ones I used to have burst and almost broke all my gear. 😢
