Em0nM4stodon,

If you are still a Twitter account owner :twitter: :

What is the final line crossed that, for you, would be too much and make you delete your Twitter account permanently?

jaanus,

@Em0nM4stodon 🇺🇦 winning the war and liberating its territory from 🗑️🇷🇺 barbarian invaders.

There’s a whole community on Twitter dedicated to the war. A bunch of braindamaged cartoon dogs did what no government agency or other effort could previously, and started successfully countering russian information war. I’m part of that, I repurposed my Twitter account.

PlineyTheNewer,

@Em0nM4stodon I can’t delete my account, because I forgot my password, but I’ve deleted the app from my devices.

@Em0nM4stodon I wait for most of journalists and politicians I follow to finally switch to Mastodon. I never rely solely on tweets, but to this day twitter remain mostly the only way to get instant updates from journalists (and politicians staff don't seem to bother Mastodon right now in my country)

zestyfupaturbo,

@Em0nM4stodon

  1. If I had to pay to use it.

  2. If people I didn't want to hear from could force their way into my time-line.

@Em0nM4stodon Twitter is my source of information for Palestine - I haven’t found any replacement for that - and I have a couple of friends I stay there for. That’s all really. I kind of ignore the rest of the Twitter world. This is fast becoming my new social media home.

@Em0nM4stodon fwiw in my mind the key test is not whether someone personally still uses Twitter, but whether they are working to move their networks over to the fediverse.

@Em0nM4stodon Still "own" my account, but I've never tweeted there, ever. So it doesn't much matter. 😁 Changed my icon to an elephant. Only keep it so it doesn't get re-abused.

@Em0nM4stodon Probably the lost of the chronological timeline and the lists (only the algorithmic timeline 😬)

tobiaalberti,

@Em0nM4stodon I feel like there should be a difference between having a Twitter account and actually using it.

In my case I'm keeping it for the time being mainly to monitor who's moving to Mastodon, to point people still on Twitter to my Mastodon and to prevent other people from reusing my Twitter handle.

natriumchloride,

@Em0nM4stodon Artists still appear to be active primarily on twitter. I don't think any of the artists i follow has moved anywhere let alone to fediverse/mastodon. I like mastodon by itself so i'll keep using it but personally this is what primarily makes me keep visiting twitter even though i'm not too happy about it nowadays.

@Em0nM4stodon
I never tweet, but I still go there every few days to read news about ME/CFS and Long Covid.

Sadly, many ME/CFS organizations post updates on twitter that are not on their websites. And now is the run-up to May 12, getting ready for the Millions Missing protest/art installation in Washington, DC.

But my twitter account is private and my profile includes a link to my Mastodon account (which I think folks can see even when not logged in).

n0fqy,

@Em0nM4stodon honestly, I’m not on Twitter for politics or news. I’m on it for hobbies. For a person to use something like social media, which is manipulated, is asinine. Yes, I do follow news organizations and politicians on Twitter, but I take everything with a grain of salt. The brain can do wonders if you allow it.

hughster,

@Em0nM4stodon At the risk of repeating others' replies, I don't think I would willingly delete the account. There's too much useful information and past discussion on it that I want to keep for reference, and the data export feature isn't good enough to preserve it completely, so I'd prefer to keep it live for as long as I can.

I don't use it for posting or interacting other than to encourage followers to leave, and it's almost always locked (except when I need to search it for something).

CarlosSierraOz,

@Em0nM4stodon To be honest, the thing that keeps my account alive is that lots of bands and musicians don’t have a Mastodon account, and I read the feed for news (shows, releases, articles, etc.). Is not about the platform itself or the interaction with others… those things got awful a while ago.

@Em0nM4stodon I cleared all my tweets deleted all my contacts and logged out and never went back.

jcastroarnaud,

@Em0nM4stodon None. It's unused, just taking on digital dust, waiting to die along Twitter itself.

clare,

@Em0nM4stodon being doxed would definitely do it for me. Also probably being charged in anyway. I would like to see Mastodon or any other app grow enough to replace it.

tailsy,
@tailsy@mastodon.social avatar

@Em0nM4stodon I don't think I'll ever delete my Twitter accounts: I did this in the past, and someone immediately scooped up my username and it was a big headache.

Locking the accounts down and logging out is enough for me.

FalconMarkSix,

@Em0nM4stodon I want to keep my post history. There are a lot of people I know that that was their last attempt at social media. I signed up there 14 years ago and there are times I want to be nostalgic.

chertograd,
@chertograd@masto.ai avatar

@Em0nM4stodon Some YouTubers and Twitch streamers haven't switched over yet so I'm kind of forced to stay there if I want to be in touch and read their content.
I would love it if everyone just started using Mastodon instead.
I really dislike Elon's way of running the site...

sinky,

@Em0nM4stodon There are a couple of things for me that i still use it. Live sporting events and my nursing union which we are having a long battle with the government.

Blaarg44,

@Em0nM4stodon The things that would make me leave Twitter permanently would be as follows:

-The majority of, if not all, the accounts I follow/retweet from permanently leaving Twitter for another platform.
-Basic functions like muting/blocking, retweeting/liking, etc. no longer working reliably (whether it be a ploy by Musk to get people to subscribe to Twitter Blue or unintentional breakage)
-Just browsing the site puts my computer seriously at risk of getting infected by malware

chertograd,
@chertograd@masto.ai avatar

@Em0nM4stodon I wouldn'tt delete my account but the same applies to pretty much any online account, really.
I have, however, almost completely switched to using but for some stuff is still pretty vital for me.
For example situations where I need to know if a service is down since some companies only share this information on the . Not even had mentions on the downtime yet at that point.

Mastodon NEEDS to improve its global search (without hashtags as well)

zak,

@Em0nM4stodon My account will be deleted once I have friends that aren’t exclusively available on the platform. Some rich asshole on the internet isn’t going to dictate who I can and can’t keep contact with. That’s my choice.

LouisePryor,

@Em0nM4stodon I haven't deleted my account, because I don't want to release the handle. But u haven't used it in several months.
