I'd like to collect "hyper-interesting pages"! 🤯📄

Self-contained, single-page artifacts that can nerd-snipe you; that you could hand out at an event, and it'd keep people interested/busy for a while, or teach them something!

Examples:

Do you know more documents like this?

What do you wish existed?

A Toki Pona cheat sheet, that explains the full grammar of the constructed language.
A message in an alien font.

@blinry Geographical distribution of place names in Germany, supports regular expressions:
https://ssz.fr/places/?de

(it seems to support other countries too, but the combo box is buggy for me)

root42,
@root42@chaos.social avatar

@SonstHarmlos @blinry Very interesting. We have lots of "-hoven", "-rath" and a few "-lar". Neat website!

SonstHarmlos,
@SonstHarmlos@sueden.social avatar

@root42 @blinry "-rath" refers to the clearing of forest for a place (German: "roden"), in other parts of Germany, it's "-rode", "-roda" or "-reuth"

root42,
@root42@chaos.social avatar

@SonstHarmlos @blinry and the pinnacle of it is Rath-Anhoven! There we have both endings!

@blinry the Time Traveler’s Cheat Sheet (circa 2009) is fun

@blinry I remember being thoroughly nerd sniped by the first one when it came it, so I'm afraid to check out the other ones 😄 My candidate is a double sided page reference sheet for RISC-V. Contains enough information that you could make an assembler, which is what I did (although you would need to guess or look at other references to get some specifics). https://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/teaching/1617/ECAD+Arch/files/docs/RISCVGreenCardv8-20151013.pdf

@traumweh@chaos.social avatar

@blinry This D&D 5e quick reference is the only one that came to mind, that is of this basic, printable form factor: https://crobi.github.io/dnd5e-quickref/preview/quickref.html

Katti,
@Katti@chaos.social avatar

@blinry Ansonsten hier was sehr schönes: https://biochemical-pathways.com/#/map/1 :D

blinry,
@blinry@chaos.social avatar

@Katti Whoa :O Seems like that one needs some prior biochemistry knowledge, but, for example, the regex crossword does as well, I guess…

Katti,
@Katti@chaos.social avatar

@blinry we have this and the Cellular and Molecular Processes as a poster in our hackspace. Cheap wallpaper ;)

AberDerBart,
@AberDerBart@chaos.social avatar

@blinry I saw this post and said to myself: "I am not gonna get nerdsniped by the regex crossword puzzle, I am going to scroll on" and succeeded - until @dasnessie asked me today, if I wanted to get nerdsniped and gave me a printed version. Got it solved, I can sleep now...

blinry,
@blinry@chaos.social avatar

@AberDerBart I'm relieved that you sent this toot before midnight, and not at, like, 4 am :D
@dasnessie

@blinry something i'm looking for is overview tables for different measures (sizes, masses, temperatures, etc) of a wide range of things in order to put them in perspective and make fermi estimates.

i'd also like to add the binary logarithm of the measures in plack units for extra coolness 😎.

@blinry depends on your threshold for hyper. I have:

@blinry jeder einzelne blog-artikel von Bartosz Ciechanow:

https://ciechanow.ski/

Bspw "Naval Architecture": https://ciechanow.ski/naval-architecture/

(Leider dynamisch und daher nicht hand-out geeignet, aber dafür extrem hoher nerd-snipe value)

@blinry

Oh for me it's the xkcd on radiation.

@blinry I nominate Wikipedia's "List of common misconceptions", easy to lose some hours learning with that one.

c3manu,
@c3manu@chaos.social avatar

@blinry now you nerd-sniped me a bit tbh 😉 plus i'm a little bored on my train ride rn

i like this allegedly true little story about the pontiac car that was allergic to vanilla icecream. i guess it's a little lesson in debugging 🙂

@blinry between this post and your 50 SDR projects, you appear to have a theme: small package, big possibilities.

blinry,
@blinry@chaos.social avatar

@b4ux1t3 That's… a good observation, yeah! Might be something I'm into!
