Attention people of The West:

I think they are crumbling under the pressure. Maybe skip the fireworks? If only to save the Washington State Dept. of Natural Resources from losing the last shreds of their sanity.

So many reasons to ease up on the boom boom sticks. See? Even Chuck agrees (and he loves pounding.)

Obviously not, given how loud it is and how many fires have started.

    literally,

@futurebird meanwhile i’m hearing HUNDREDS go off each of the last three nights and there’s nothing any of us can do about it but ineffectively beg assholes to not be destructive. fireworks are already illegal here but since it’s NEVER enforced and there are NEVER consequences of course people still set them off.

    neontapir,

@futurebird along with the potential fires, how the noise terrifies my dogs leaves me conflicted about how we celebrate this holiday

@futurebird Tell your local city council, chamber of commerce, or whoever sponsors fireworks displays near you about drone shows. There are several companies doing this now :

The good ones are better than fireworks, I think.

    mudbungie,

@futurebird lol they are doing what they do best. WADNR is the state's champion shitposter and we love them for it.

Also, yes, please do not light the state on fire.

    @futurebird whatever.
We are crunchy dry here in Southern WI. Fully expecting a grass fire before tomorrow ends.

(Everyone take a moment to plead with the rain gods that they pay off with the projected rain on Wednesday. We are at about 8% of normal rainfall for May/June. I haven't mowed in SIX WEEKS. Usually every 5 days in June.)

I think we're at a point where this warning is no longer relevant to just the west.

I hope people really understand this. It's alarming the number of people who use fireworks unsafely, especially in high danger areas. Wildfires are no joke.

    gocu54,

@Fragglemuppet @futurebird you know people are going to do the exact opposite. Some people really just don't care.

fireworks have been starting dangerous wildfires in the western USA for all my life, and I hate it. July is always dry, and between the 100th meridian and the coast ranges, especially dry. Fireworks and dry trees and grasses are a horrible, often life-threatening combination. But the fireworks industry cons people into thinking it's all about "freedom" and "patriotism" and "having a good time".

@futurebird Please don't start a post like that! I was totally expecting a rant about Jewish Transgender Lizards That Hate Cars after that intro😜

@futurebird well, / risks are the reason there are more than 6 months were fires and smoking outside of secured premises is basically illegal on several Mediterranean Islands.
