@parismarx some people sympathetic to that proposal must have remained at PayPal because in 2009, PayPal made a very clumsy unveiling of their "PayPal X" service.

I went to the developer conference where they made that unexpected announcement with almost two hours of long speeches and cringey Office Space inspired skits that weren't funny.

The only reason I even remember they once had something called PayPal X is because that conference is seared in my memory for being so so bad.

@DoktorPooPoo Yeah, so I’m referring to the PayPal product. X was financial services, then merged with Confinity which made PayPal. Musk was CEO of merged company called X, and tried to rename the core product PayPal as X too, but was ousted over it because users trusted the PayPal brand and didn’t trust X. Then the X services were shut down by Thiel so the entire company eventually took the PayPal name.
