I'm doing my best to stay off reddit and find content and conversation elsewhere. I get reddit wants to be profitable and is doing what they think will achieve that, but those actions conflict with my values etc. Been enjoying exploring and participating in tildes and kbin.
I decided to take a peek at Reddit to see what kind of activity is happening, a good handful of the subreddits I am subscribed to are still super active with posts and commenters....
I wouldn't say it accomplished nothing. I clearly motivated a bunch of people to start investing in other platforms. Platforms like Kbin and Lemmy now have a lot more mods and developers contributing. It gave alternatives MUCH needed attention. Mos of us had never even heard about these platforms a few weeks ago.
Another update and possibly a solution for some case where posts were not properly deleted. Seems I jumped the gun on this and the restores haven't been intentional - at least not in this particular case....
Most people access the Fediverse through one of the large instances: lemmy.world, kbin, or beehaw. New or small instances of Lemmy have no content by default, and can most easily get content by linking to larger Lemmy instances. This is done manually one "Community" at a time (I spent 15 minutes doing this yesterday). Meanwhile,...
Thank you for filing the bug report - that is really weird... I hope kbin fixes that issue quickly because that's definitely gonna lead to some very off interpretations.
I decided to do a bit of a dive into this platform, and while I think it is an interesting idea, I am yet to find a space on Lemmy where I am welcome. I am an artist. I have a Patreon that pays my bills and puts food on the table. Generally, I give the majority of my stuff away for free to the community, but that usually comes...
I don’t know about sh.it just.works, but on kbin I doubt anyone would have an issue with you putting a link to your patreon in your content post. It’s not spamming and asking for donations for your work is not an ad either. After all, I see people who post their Steam pages and App Store pages up and no one complains (and that is far closer to an ad).
What we're really lacking on the ui end is a way to see groups of identical communities that are on different federated platforms. Hence the idea of a dom-lemmy. The way it would work is lets say you search for a cat community called "cats", there's at least dozens of them out there already. Instead it would return the cats...
I like it, but I also can see some issues with it where communities grouped together may have different rules and standards for posts or comments. Even on kbin it's hard to see what instance a user or thread is coming from so keeping track of multiple rule sets across domains could be tricky.
I read The Verge's latest interview with Steve Huffman here and it seems as though the Reddit blackout is having little to no effect. It also seems as though the communities at large don't really care and will probably just use the official app or don't really know there are 3rd party ones. So it seems this will pass and be...
I think one needs to see the bigger picture here. The protest that started earlier this week might not have left a big dent in reddit yet. What it did though is raise attention and increase awareness for alternative news/content aggregators like kbin. They're not anywhere close to competing with reddit yet but the door got opened.
The shortsighted reddit politics basically helped to kickstart their own future competitors. If we do our best here and bring in good content, comment and get past only consuming there will be a real chance to become more appealing than reddit in the long run. I'm definitely here to stay.
Those links redirect to the communities in those instances. You can 100% participate and sub to them from your Kbin account, or even your Mastodon account because all Fediverse apps use ActivityPub as its base. Just look for the community from the search section of your Fediverse instance, and sub to it there, and then you can interact with it from your current account. So for example, showerthoughts hosted on lemmy.world can be accessed on kbin via https://kbin.social/m/showerthoughts@lemmy.world
kbin.social: About the state of #kbin, developer @ernest:
"the instance was created recently, about 1-2 months ago. ...That's how it is in the Fediverse. In the beginning, not everything is easy and obvious, but if you put enough heart and effort into it, it pays off in the future."
"I have added the option to set the entire magazine as +18, including remote. Please provide me with those here in the comments that require action."
Yeah Active and Hot have become basically completely not useful for me. They just show old posts. And new doesn't show what I'd want either since it doesn't show posts with lots of activity and it shows a bunch of random stuff. Active has seemed to just show old stuff for the entire time I've been on Lemmy. Hot used to be better but Hot seems to have become more static as well for some reason.
Hopefully this can be fixed and these modes and how they display content updated because I think this has a major impact on Lemmy's ability to be a Reddit alternative if the main feeds just have the same old posts in them forever.
Kbin seems to not have this issue in the same way. I prefer the Lemmy interface otherwise though, so I hope this can be improved on Lemmy, but otherwise it's shifting my use over to kbin when I want to browse.
We hoped to spin up a #kbin to support the fediverse but really struggled. After 9 server rebuild we ran out of steam and had to move on to another pressing issue
@2deverywhere@Mr_Mofu Practical example.
We on Mastodon.social as we have @ name @ Mastodon.social
I searched #arknights and found Mastodon bot for Arknights EN @ ArknightsEN@ hello.2heng.xin but it's not ending mastodon.social, it's on Chinese server called little forest.
Ahh I see. Yeah that looks great. Kbin seems to still be figuring itself out with how it works between itself and Lemmy. Well guess I'll look more into this community through my Lemmy accounts then!
This is the first post in a (still very empty) magazine on KBin. I've started it because I'd love to see this kind of content on the fediverse, and I hope that this will become a place where we can connect and get inspired by each other's fiber arts.
I'm curious about what kind of fiber crafting you all do.
I myself am very into hand spinning (on supported spindles, mainly) and knitting, but once in a while, I explore other fiber crafts as well, for example, crochet, weaving, and sewing. I'd like to get into (in)visible mending as well.
What are your favorite fiber crafts? And what are you currently working on?
I'm currently spinning some nice rainbow fiber on my spindles:
Reddit refugees assemble!!!
Nothing important here. I just want to see how many people are moving away from Reddit.
Took a peek on Reddit, it really boggles my mind how oblivious and obedient people are.
I decided to take a peek at Reddit to see what kind of activity is happening, a good handful of the subreddits I am subscribed to are still super active with posts and commenters....
OC Updated: Reddit is quietly restoring deleted AND overwritten posts and comments (mstdn.games)
Another update and possibly a solution for some case where posts were not properly deleted. Seems I jumped the gun on this and the restores haven't been intentional - at least not in this particular case....
Does lemmy.world really have 26000 users already? (lemmy.world)
Almost! At the time of this post, lemmy.world has a whopping 25733 users and is growing fast....
The Lemmy User Experience is Better When Centralized into Fewer Instances

What are some magazines you'd like to see on kbin that don't exist yet?
Are there any communities you've not yet seen on kbin that you used to visit on Reddit?...
we have "sub-lemmys" but what we are missing for lack of a better term is "dom-lemmys", hear me out
What we're really lacking on the ui end is a way to see groups of identical communities that are on different federated platforms. Hence the idea of a dom-lemmy. How much of an impact is the protest really having on Reddit?

I'm no artist, but I thought Kbin could use a mascot. Shall we all create one together?

per user blocking of entire instance
I would like to be able to block full instances for a user. My example is to not see any content from lemmynsfw.com....

Is it possible to subscribe to kbin instances or whatever they're called from Lemmy?
I follow mma and see they have a community on kbin. Can I somehow subscribe to it from lemmy.one?
Some of my comments aren't appearing here.
Hey folks,...
