@Timwi I am also struggling with this a bit. I have been trying to do this manually with mixed results. For example, I manually typed out https://kbin.social/m/technology@lemmy.world and it works. However, a smaller lemmy.world community 'Sooners' doesn't work (https://kbin.social/m/sooners@lemmy.world). Does the federation sync prioritize larger communities and /c/sooners just hasn't been sync'd yet?
I want to send a link to my less-than-informed-on-fediverse friend a link and was hoping to do it straight via kbin
I'm really interested in what's going on with kbin and if no one else does it I might consider setting up one with a similar theme to retro.pizza, with magazines for Transformers and Star Wars and Marvel and whatever else people want to post about in tidy categories, but... also someone else should do that so I don't have to, I am old and tired.

That's how I've been starting to see this all as well. The seperate, smaller instances remind me a lot of 00's phpbb forum, but it's with the UX of Reddit. Lastly the intercompatibility feels comparable to e-mail: It doesn't matter that I use gmail and you use Outlook, we can still send eachother an e-mail and both servers will talk to eachother without any issue. It's the some of the best of many worlds and I'm feeling Lemmy and Kbin are here to stay for me.
@skellener eee, two different things. kbin and the fedisomethingverse is a different thing. besides it doesn't have r/sevenseaslinuxisos. Yet. or r/worldnews (anime titties).
So, what’s the general consensus on Lemmy? Is it a toxic project with questionable roots, or just one with some really bad PR? The app is not especially impressive to me, thus far, but I’m told it’s more advanced than Kbin, and I may not be configured properly.
@shoq I went with Kbin after seeing some things about Lemmy that didn't really sound positive. I've been fine with Kbin (at kbin.social) so far, community seems nice. The fact that I can still look at Lemmy magazines and all that good federated stuff made it a fairly easy choice to stick with.
@shoq I tried joining lemmy.ml last year, they never answered the sign-up request :(
Kbin is basically still in early beta, so a some features are still unstable and wonky, but the concept is really nice. I think you posted this on your mastodon feed? I'm answering it in the microblog section of kbin. The author (Ernest) said he has plans to make it federate with the entirety of the fediverse, so I guess that is worth a close watch.
edit: apparently this doesn't work yet, checking your profile on your instance shows me nothing about this interaction lol.
edit2: apparently it does! lmao just takes ~30min to sync, but it does! wtf
If it wasn’t for old Reddit and RES I’d be off there today or if platforms like this one get a good user base of quality people. This Fediverse thing is really neat but I think most people will not want to invest the time to learn how to use it. Today is my first day here and I still have a lot of questions for example I know that Mastadon is part of the Fediverse. Does that mean I can use that service due to having a Kbin account or do I have to sign up with one of their servers?

WAIT. I'm actually half wrong. I can see my kbin posts from mastodon! It's just that they're all comments so far, so I have to go under the "Posts & Replies" section to see them. However, I'm still not able to see my mastodon posts from kbin.
The https://kbin.social server is now federating with the Fediverse. You can follow/interact with kbin.social magazines & users from other Kbin servers, Mastodon & rest of the Fediverse. For example the TIL magazine is at @TodayILearned, the lead dev of Kbin is at @ernest
There's a new Kbin server at https://readit.buzz which is run by the same people as the Universodon.com Mastodon server. It's open for signups, just click "log in" and then "register".
@feditips So if I reply to a Kbin post on Mastodon, will it appear as a comment on Kbin? I just tried this and it doesn't appear to have worked, but I heard Kbin was having federation trouble...
@feditips It took about 5 minutes to appear but I was able to comment on a post I made on Kbin! Now I'm seeing about replying to my Mastodon comment on Kbin.
This is a bit clunky, but I love this idea. I hope as the fediverse grows, the UX of this gets improved. I personally hate juggling accounts.
@feditips I did get this random notification for a post I made on Kbin but it wasn't in reply to anything my Mastodon account is attached to. No clue why this showed up
Well, at least it was just something easy to solve (adding the missing credits) and not actually replacing code incompatible with the project’s license! Imagine if you had used, say, a LGPL license for Kbin and went and added a full GPL’d library to the source code, that would have been a mess to solve and would have justifiably killed the project.
Can we get a consensus on whether our community should de-federate with servers that host loli? I personally think we should block them, and if that ends up not being the consensus here then I'll probably sign up on another server. I hope we can all agree to set that boundary though because I like it here and it seems otherwise...
like, that's weird; there's tons of lemmy instances that they could have been on, and kbin has a (very inactive) community as well
onto the point:
All fictional porn, no matter how deviant it is, is ultimately more ethical than real porn can be.
This may be true, but you can't blame many users for being really turned off by it; like I think it'd be perfectly acceptable if most people don't want to interact with an instance hosting that.
If you don't like that, then you might have to move to another instance tbh

I'm trying to search for a community that definitely exists: but it doesn't show up in search
!programming clearly exists (see https://programming.dev/c/programming), but I can't seem to find it in Lemmy.world's search bar....
What’s the deal with lemmy.world and beehaw?
I don’t get what the problem is? Anyone can elaborate....
How does the Mastodon integration work?
Apologies if this has been covered. With the search function broken, I can't find out....
Hey guys, this time I really messed up :/
I think you should see something....
Isn't it ironic.... that we all left reddit because 3rd party apps were being killed off, and came to a place where there are no 3rd party apps.
edited to meet rule #3!
