I was trying to write a "quick" blog post yesterday. I failed for various reasons. One of them is that I wanted to do a quick recording of my desktop and then turn it into an animated gif to put in the post. It turns out the ecosystem of tools for doing that has exploded into a mess of complexity. I just wanted something simple.
To be clear, I don't mind paying for tools once I've established that I have enough use for it. I encourage people to pay for software that they find valuable. But I'm not there yet. I reach for this use case maybe 3-4 times a year.
