A 45 year old American male has the odds of dying in one year of 0.004137 (less than 1%), and 62 year old has the odds of 0.015702 (less than 2%). The odds of a 45 year old and a 62 year old (who whistleblew on Boeing) dying naturally within 2 months of each other are…not good.

Boeing has 145,000 direct employees of various ages. How many might be lost soon in odds defying ways?

If you have to fly, you might want to consider avoiding airplanes for the foreseeable future. These lemons apparently can't make it through a flight without parts of the falling off. Stick with the for now. It seems like Boeing started going downhill when their bullshit came out. It's been one problem after the next ever since.

activistPnk, (edited ) to solarpunktravel in Boeing- another panel fell off

I think you’re right. In one of the articles I posted, an apparent Boeing insider demanded exiting a 737 Max upon finding it was that specific aircraft model that he boarded.

But the problem is not just with the nuts and bolts. A PBC documentary did a deep probe on the . We have to accept that engineers make mistakes. But what I do NOT accept is managers making the deliberate calculated decision to coverup the mistakes to the extent of proactively consciously deciding not to train Boeing pilots on the KNOWN flaws and idiosyncracies to save money. Lives were lost because of these management decisions – which are the same managers who lives depend on w.r.t. the older Boeing aircraft as well. These decisions also lead to under-trained Boeing pilots.

The 737 Max will probably go through copious scrutiny. But even if they make every nut, bolt, and sensor quite safe, that does nothing for the shitty infrastructure of right-wing business people who will continue working to pinch every penny for their shareholders.

I would love to see a dated line graph of the historic and current pay rate of Boeing test pilots with annotations on each incident.

Individual passengers now feeling compelled to check what aircraft their flights are scheduled on and refusing to board Boeing 737 Max planes sure does seem like a metaphor for something

@inquiline In Europe Ryanair is everywhere. Being the tight-fisted outfit they are, they snapped up a load of 737 Max just after the second MCAS crash when Boeing could hardly give the crappy planes away. Ryanair is keen not to call these shonky aircraft "737 Max", rather "737-8", lest customers might be put off travelling in their deathtraps.

Boeing ousts the head of its troubled 737 Max program after quality control concerns

The Boeing executive who oversaw the company’s troubled 737 Max program is out — part of a broader leadership change the company announced on Wednesday.

The shakeup comes amid intense scrutiny of Boeing’s quality control after a door plug panel from a 737 Max 9 aircraft blew off during an Alaska Airlines flight last month.

Boeing executive Ed Clark, who was in charge of the 737 Max program, has left the company. Clark oversaw Boeing’s factory in Renton, Washington where the plane that became Alaska Airlines flight 1282 was assembled.

For all the disparagement of the way of doing (especially from international organisations based in the USA), what we can see in the sector is that are now the dominant manufacturer.... especially now that 's longer term problems have been compounded by their difficulties.

[And before you say, ah yes by Airbus get masses of state aid, so does, albeit in different form, Boeing]

Chart: Boeing loses market share to its rival Airbus. Market share of large single-aisle aircraft (% firm order backlog). Shows Boeing with more market share than Airbus until 1998, but then Airbus slowly but surely increase it share above Boeing, to the point where the share is currently 60/40 in favour of Airbus
