After months of deep reflection, intensive brainstorming, and a few too many drinks, we have reached a revolutionary decision.

Yes, you read that right. We've decided to embrace the future with a name that reflects two pillars of modern technology: the ubiquitous Windows environment and the omniscient power of Artificial Intelligence. But let's not stop there, here are some hilarious new features that will accompany this change:
🌐 Cafe Virtual Assistant: Forget traditional discussion methods. Now, an exclusive AI bot, named "Clippy's Cousin," will facilitate every conversation, offering unsolicited advice and occasionally attaching vintage clip art to enrich your interactions.
🖥️ Mandatory Discussion Theme: To ensure all members are cutting-edge, every post must include at least one reference to a Windows update (preferably those requiring immediate restart).
👁️ Friendly Surveillance: In homage to our Windows inspiration, we will adopt a "mandatory transparency" policy, where all member activities are monitored to "improve the user experience." Don't worry, the data will only be shared with our network of AIs, to ensure you receive increasingly personalized ads.
📅 Special Events: Get ready for our inaugural event, "The Night of Long Updates," where we'll share horror stories of updates gone wrong, interrupted by unexpected reboot sessions and interspersed with guided meditations to stay calm.

Wow, that was fast. People may remember my idea behind #BoxyBSD? Temporary jails for testing and debugging? It got immediately abused for spamming etc.!
Now, I’m running a friendly beta test within the #BSD Community (primary #BSDCafe & BSD fans) for free small sized hosted #VMs / #Jails (IPv6 only).
The first system is already full. Let’s see how this will be (ab)used?! Maybe, the next stack will start after Easter.

today marks exactly 8 months since the BSD Cafe was announced to the world. Our community has grown and is made up of wonderful people who add tremendous value to the content seen both on our Mastodon instance and other channels (primarily Matrix).
For this, I am truly grateful!
One of the first services we launched was Miniflux, but, in fact, it never really "took off." The main reason, in my opinion, is that registrations are not open but require contacting me directly, which (I am aware) greatly limits the freedom to sign up. The reasons why Miniflux is not open for immediate registration are various, but the main one is that the developers offer paid hosting that helps fund the project. By offering a free service with immediate access here, I risked undermining them - something I wanted to avoid.
Therefore, I have decided to introduce another RSS Reader, namely FreshRSS. Registrations are open and free, and the tool, like the others, runs exclusively on BSD systems (currently, FreeBSD).
I will update the wiki page with information and instructions as soon as possible, but the server is already active and operational for a few days - and is now on the Status page.

since December 2023, snac.bsd.cafe has been operational, initially in an experimental phase but has proven to be stable and reliable.
Thus, Snac2 is now available as a service of BSD Cafe. It is considered one of the best and most comprehensive "lightweight" implementations of #ActivityPub, offering one of the best ways to interact with the Fediverse without the need for the extensive dependencies and components of Mastodon.
It is now possible to request an account on the snac2 instance of BSD Cafe. There isn't an automatic sign-up process (snac2 does not provide one, as it wasn't designed to create large communities).

Today marks 7 months since I made the BSD Cafe public. These days, I'm quite busy and don't have much time to dedicate, but when I want to relax in the evening, I open one of the interaction tools and see wonderful people, great conversations, and interesting topics. I just want to say thank you to you, friends who are part of the BSD Cafe, and to all of you, friends of the BSD Cafe.

Bytedance is connecting to our server every few seconds. As I don't understand why and, more, I've already had problems with their rude behaviour, I've added this rule to nginx.conf:

Almost 10 yrs ago it already started w/ 3x #HP#DL385 G5 (3rd in another rack). Each of them w/ 64GB RAM and 2 CPU setup. Nowadays, even larger VMs already come with this amount of RAM. I love building my own and independent #infrastructure and #AS.
@housepanther just in addition, if you're playing much with #BSD based systems the #BSDCafe (https://bsd.cafe) including its Matrix channel etc. might be interesting for you.
Today, I'll be attempting to update all the jails still running on FreeBSD 13.2-RELEASE to FreeBSD 14.0-RELEASE.
Some are already on 14.0 (Miniflux, Elasticsearch, nginx reverse proxy, the mail server, the wiki, snac), while BlendIT, Matrix and the other Mastodon jails (both primary and secondary, redis, postgresql) are still on 13.2. Since I encountered some issues during testing, I'll be stopping the jails one by one as I update them (to create a snapshot), so there might be some downtime today.
Don't worry, nothing unusual is happening – it's just me updating the coffee machines. 😄 ☕

Evening thoughts: Since I started talking about #snac2, some BSD Cafe users have set up their own instances and begun using them.
Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned it.
snac2 has reached version 2.44, which is stable and undoubtedly suitable for more comprehensive use.
In the coming days, I'll likely declare this instance as stable and include it in BSD Cafe's services. Plurality and choice are fundamental in a free world.
