This excellent book, “Calling Bullshit: The Art of Skepticism in a Data-Driven World” by @ct_bergstrom & Jevin West has loads of good insights on seeing through poor statistics, science & data; whether accidental or purposely misleading.

I'm begrudgingly trying to finish this novel (more than halfway done, whew!). The supposedly humorous parts didn't humor me. The characters all seem like caricatures. Most of the Pinoy elements are cliché. Suffice to say that I am not enjoying this book.

I didn't have high expectations to begin with. But what disappoints me is that I expected it to be relatable because it talks about my own culture...(1/2)

New week. New Reads!
I accidentally grabbed book 4 of the The Frost Files. So had to go back and get book 1. Really enjoying it.

I'm of course enjoying @pluralistic 's latest. I'm already fuming and hopeful and have highlighted so much of it.

What're you reading?

Just finished this by Becky Chambers, the second in the Monk & Robot series: A Prayer for the Crown-Shy.

It’s a lovely little book, but didn’t quite speak to me like the first one. That probably has more to do with the mental place I’ve been in as I read them than the books themselves, and it’s still an easy 4 stars.

I like this promo image for my latest novel "500" that's been making the rounds on some other social media platforms lately, so I thought I'd share it here.

If you like what you're seeing, you can pick up the book in paperback, hardcover, or Kindle Edition eBook via Amazon:

I'm going to attempt to finish reading the book I'm currently reading (about 35% into it) and complete a second book by Monday. This will be predicated upon my ability to get to the beach early & read uninterrupted for the bulk of the day. Wish me luck!

What will you be doing this weekend?

Eeny, meeny, miny, moe.

Deciding on which among these three books by authors I should read next (these are from my Big Bad Wolf haul last June). Leaning towards Arudpragasam's novel set in Sril Lanka.

Has anyone read any of these books?

There are few things more delightful, more hopeful and more life giving than a collection of books. 🩷 📚 (One of several bookcases in my home)

On their fruit farm a mother tells the story of her almost-famous young actress days, and its aftermath, to her three 20-something daughters. It's lockdown and they're trying to get the cherry harvest in with 1 migrant family instead of 12. Her good husband already knows the story. As masterful & beguiling as only Ann Patchett can. Five bright stars

As a heads up to my , I'd highly recommend catching up on any of my first six that you might have missed by the end of this year. My 7th, while still a standalone, is very much tied to everything that's come before it and will likely hit a lot harder for you if you're at least somewhat familiar with one or more of my previous works.

Thinking of queueing this up for my next non-fic read. Or maybe I should first finish the ultra challenging "Designing Organisations"? Or perhaps read both concurrently? 😂

#1: #3: Everblaze. My kids have enjoyed getting into a new series after we finished the books last year. These magical adventure books are perfect for our next series together. 📚 📕

jeremyawilliams,

@bookstadon : Fixit by Joe Ide. The 6th book in the IQ mystery series pulled together lots of threads from the previous books, but the story plodded along slower that I would have liked. I’ll keep reading the series, but the first two books remain the best.
