Okay and peeps - I could use some help.

I've got a Gateway GP6-400 P2 tower running Windows 98. Unfortunately the mobo has an on-board joystick port that I can't seem to find a way to disable, but I want to run my Sound Blaster AWE32 card in this machine. I'm okay with disabling the AWE32 joyport and using the on-board, but I can't figure out how to disable the joyport on this PnP-configured card. I boot dos 6.2, use CTCU to disable it, but then how can I get that configuration to stick in the win98 install?

'CTCU' notoriously doesn't run under DOS 7/Win98 DOS. Can I do it with 'UNISOUND' maybe?

Anybody good with configuring SB PnP sound cards in Win 98? Boots appreciated.

TY

30 odd years ago I wrote a program for my work that gives machine data for making cardboard boxes and many different styles. Got it running in DOSBox and I can't believe how crispy was. Pure functionality with zero clutter.

Are you this old? 😂

Did you ever use Dr Solomon's Antivirus for MS-DOS? 😁🤷‍♂️

Transferring some floppies and data to my . By the way, if you can recommend a trusty PDF viewer (that can also print) under DOS, if there is such a thing, feel free to let me know. I wanted to use Mupdf, but seemingly got a virus infected file which I won't use 😅

Good morning! I'm trying to do a little research into sound options available on IBM-compatibles prior to the launch of sound blaster! I know there's a few heads and peeps around here

I want to build a rough asset editor for sound in my game, something along the lines of sfxr for sounds and a basic sequencer for

I'm interested in figuring out what spec of limitations I should follow to capture the widest use case of that time. Was it all just the PIT?

Other than C, C++ and , are there any modern languages/compilers that target modern operating systems and ?

Using a 32-bit extender for DOS is fine.

Yes, it's just another random question that has crossed my mind.

EDIT: For context, CLI only. No graphics required.

Interesting... I'd assumed that #FreePascal's 16-bit #DOS cross-compiler was just ignoring the memory model I was setting. Turns out it wasn't, and I hadn't been reading the error messages properly. They're all failing for different reasons!

Surely I must be doing something wrong?

I'm struggling to find any information on issues like this, largely because hardly anyone uses it.

I might end up switching to the 32-bit DOS compiler, just to get something working.

Am I the only one who had issues with configuring conventional memory in correctly for later games? I remember slow downs on , and with an error message saying „Memory Low swapping data to disk“. How does it come that the SCUMM interpreter was so memory hungry in that specific segment? Does anyone of you guys know?@grumpygamer @aaronsgiles @scummvm @DavidBFox

This year, I bought the entire packs/bundles of classics via as well as 1 to 7 via .

The last time I played most of these were from 1988 to 1996. One or two I played again sometime early 2000s, randomly.

I already started with and Part 1, and I'm already cheating. ROFL. I mean, the packs made it easy to cheat.

Back in the 90s, we had to use a hex editor like . We open the savegame file, search through it through the hex editor, and did our magic.

LOL.

After many hours I finally have all the pieces of my first together!

Features:

  • Sine-scrolling text
  • Star field
  • Custom font
  • VGA palette cycling
  • Music
  • Greets
  • Anti-lamer measures

Written in Turbo C with a touch of assembly for the music (powered by the amazing RAD lib by Reality)

And it actually works on real on real hardware!

It was fun to work on something that didn't teach me any skills I could use in real life today.

(see next posts for deets, am out of chars)

Shows the "Nostalgia cracktro" that introduces my crack and trainer for SimCity version 1.07 while an Adlib rendition of "Popcorn" plays, followed by a demonstration of the crack and trainer by starting SimCity.

Are there any mods for the original games with some QOL stuff without losing too much of the feel of the game?

I love the idea of the games, and they look great, but they're a bit hard/frustrating (esp terror from the deep)

Just not a fan of permadeath either
