this adds +1 to the time to live of your computer's packets and fools simple detectors which try to block tethering on the basis that it is one extra hop from computer to phone before going to the telco. #netneutrality#deviceneutrality
💡 Last month, the DMA came into force and we launched a website about #DeviceNeutrality, the #EU parliament voted the #CRA and the #PLD, and we released a guide to get active for the upcoming 🇪🇺 #EUelections. 🚀
I'm sitting in the @EU_Commission#DMA compliance workshop for #Apple right now and as much as I appreciate the format, it's frustrating to see that Apple is the only party on the panel and in addition has its proxies like #CCIA and the #AppAssociation#ACT in the audience that are allowed to ask convenient questions and steer the discussion in Apple's interest.
rooting and changing the OS of smart anything, especially phones, need to be at the center of the right to repair movement, not just getting access to software drivers or hardware.
PS: i have avoided activating the Roku nonsense exactly for what the article describes.
Most probably, yesterday you received at least a 🤖 tech toy as a gift 🎁
If you are a techie like we are, 🧑💻 you already have your hands all over it, tinkering and hacking 👾
Speaking of, we are super happy to share that we created a wiki containing all the information you need to free your router! 📶
Not only it is fun, but it is also great to start achieving #DeviceNeutrality and #SoftwareFreedom at home or at your working place. Take a look at it!
The 1 problem about T-Mobile Home Internet is all the idea places to place their gateway (their modem / router combo unit), would ultimately mean either moving or mistakenly bumping into the unit.
That, ultimately, causes a change in the signal I receive.
All the places I can think of that would keep their gateway stationary away from anyone, avoiding any issue, is not likely good for the unity to receive the best signal.
I guess unlike in #Germajy where @BNetzA forces them to accept 3rd party routers and modems, the #FCC doesn't demand that level of #DeviceNeutrality...
(Otherwise #Iridium would not be allowed to restrict tarrifs based off #IMEI numbers of customer devicee!)
Austrian Regulatory Authority for Broadcasting and Telecommunications (RTR) has decided not to regulate network operators regarding #RouterFreedom, allowing ISPs to impose their equipment on consumers.
We at FSFE regret this decision as a missed opportunity for #DeviceNeutrality in Austria.
However, as RTR reiterated, the current decision is not final and the regulator will re-evaluate this framework in the future! 🤞🏼
In a pan-European survey,, end-users highlight several barriers to #RouterFreedom, including lack of choice, vendor lock-in and the promotion of devices running only proprietary software
