EU carbon market emissions fall record 15.5% as renewable power soars
"Carbon dioxide emissions regulated under the European Union's emissions trading system (#ETS) fell by a record 15.5% in 2023 as renewable power output soared, the European Commission said on Wednesday.
Around 45% of the European Union's output of greenhouse gases is regulated by the #EU ETS.
The power sector saw a 24% drop in #emissions compared with 2022 levels."
"The preliminary 2023 data shows that “ETS #emissions are now around 47% below 2005 levels and well on track to achieve the 2030 target of -62%,” the Commission said.
The #ETS regulated about 45 percent of the bloc's total greenhouse gas emissions in 2023, covering energy-intensive industries, power plants and some flights within #Europe. The scheme, which charges a price for licenses to pollute, expanded in 2024 to also cover #shipping emissions. "
I was just explaining this to somebody who was asking why anybody would be scared of 15-minute cities, which benefits everyone. It's not about how it benefits them, it's about the equal access to amenities to those who aren't like them, and use active transportation. They have been taught to believe that nobody more vulnerable than them can be helped without it coming out of their own privilege. I am somewhat more pragmatically concerned about things like the City of Edmonton claiming to be a 15-minute city, particularly after eradicating so many functional suburban bus routes into this nearly-almost-completely-and-utterly-useless mess.

However, there is some good news, as KTMB will provide 6 additional #ETS services for Chinese New Year & school holiday, 4 for #KLSentral ↔ Ipoh and 2 for KL Sentral ↔ Padang Besar
I just compensated my Brussels #IAPP#DPC23 trip's carbon emissions by buying #SAF (sustainable aviation fuel) into #Finnair's system.
The price was 230 eur. Yes, that's a lot for an individual given the rock-bottom subsidised fares we enjoy now, but at the same time, if the value one gets from a flight couldn't take that hit - maybe the flight is not worth taking?
This sort of additional cost ought to be regulated into ticket prices all across the EU, immediately.

Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (#KTMB) offers additional Electric #Train Service (#ETS) trips from Kuala Lumpur Sentral (KL Sentral) #station to Padang Besar & vice versa in conjunction with #Deepavali celebration.
The additional #service will run for five days from 9 to 13 Nov, while the tickets are on sale since 10am 17 October.

Agriculture is outside of the #NZETS so 18% represents manufacturing emissions, it doesn't include on-farm #Scope3 emissions.
My daughter and I took a short trip from #ipoh to #kualalumpur. We went by the #ets train and we like it! It's clean, comfortable and on time. I normally prefer the flexibility of driving myself, but it's nice to just sit and enjoy the ride. Or sleep the whole way, which is what my daughter did. She's a great traveller - sleeps anywhere!

Two additional Electric Train Service (#ETS) are provided from 11 August to 13 August for the #StateElections (which will take place on 12 August in the states of Selangor, Kelantan, Terengganu, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah and Penang) and from 25 August to 3 September for #SchoolHolidays.
Carbon credits for tree planting should only ever be loans. Repayable if the forest is ever cut down, or burns in a forest fire, or anything else. #ETS
