Passive #express js middleware can't do anything for the response except return it or pass control to the next middleware. They usually only modify the request.
So you hijack the writeEnd function of the response and do your maddness there!?
Finally figured out why #nodebb posts weren't queryable via Mastodon, turns out it does Content-Type checking, and I was inadvertently breaking #ActivityPub spec by sending in application/json when I should've been sending in "application/activity+json" or 'application/ld+json; profile="https://www.w3.org/ns/activitystreams"'
Latter doesn't play nicely with express, so using the former and all's well!

@trwnh I didn't particularly want to get into #express internals earlier today, so I didn't dig into it, but months ago I wasn't able to express.accepts() with the expected header. It either hung or kept returning false, I forget now.
Today I attempted to res.set('Content-Type', 'application/ld+json; profile="<https://www.w3.org/ns/activitystreams>"'); but the app hung.
Either way it works fine if "profile" clause is removed, but then that's not the right header 😃
I did it (so y’all didn’t have to pollute yourselves) have a quick look at the Daily Heil and the Express this evening. Not a peep on either of them (that I can see) that mentions it, let alone damming evidence of government cynicism, incompetence or crassness.
