New #Fairphone5 arrived home. You need their site to unlock the bootloader (fuck you). The site doesn't work (fuck you again). Can't unlock the bootloader.
So, after 3 years & 7 month I finally ordered a new phone.
I never had a phone before which lasted so long, normally after 1 or latest 2y something was broken & repairing was more expensive then buying (another cheap one).
So, my last phone was a fairphone (3+).
I broke once the camera and the display. And was super easily to repair it myself. I love the modularity! I really wish, the other constructor will follow the modular way too!
Been 3 months with my #Fairphone5 and the #iodeOS is still awesome, the phone still works great, the battery still lasts and I am still satisfied with my purchase.
If you're looking for a way to do something good and are looking for a new phone... Look no further.
While we try to find a suitable place for the clock in phosh's top bar when notches are present (since 0.29.0) we didn't take rounded corners into account as most of the time the left and right padding would be enough.
With more devices like the #fairphone5 and #xiaomi daisy showing up as being used with #phosh we need to care about that too:
Why can't I enable battery saver mode while charging on my phone?? If it were a default, fine, but seems to me they had to do it on purpose to disable that functionality. Why??
I've seen LTT's review of #FairPhone5 and in my personal opinion he was way too harsh on it, mostly for entertainment value of the video. Glossing over the biggest selling points like sustainability and repairability, while dunking on second tier stuff, like minimal sound levels. And totally ignoring stuff like Fairphone having a nearly clear Android install without Samsung's bloatware.
@GrapheneOS
hi, I do understand, you simply want to provide as secure option as possible. I am just saying that I would have accepted less secure option if it meant not buying Google product. Which I will essentially do by installing either @LineageOS or @calyxos on my #fairphone5 when one of these ROMs is available :) @ente
I bought a #Fairphone5 late last year. I went through all sorts of reviews. My favourite was likely #LouisRossmann just going through all the documentation supplied by #Fairphone.
The review which really convinced me was some person going through everything and concluding that you could get a phone with better specs for a lower price. The fact that they couldn't wrap their head around the appeal of #repairability and parts made to last made me buy one.
I've said it before and I will gladly say it again:
If you don't play highend games on your phone and dont need the latest 100MP phone camera, get a #Fairphone5 when your old phone dies (or give it to someone else in need).
While it is true that the most sustainable phone is a recycled one, we all know that old phones have no more Software support and most will most likely never receive an open source OS due to propietary libs/drivers.
It is our road now to support sustainable phone makers.
We have just released the /e/OS Easy Installer for Fairphone 5 🥳
Say goodbye to complicated installation processes! Our Easy Installer, a user-friendly desktop application, makes installing /e/OS on your phone as easy as a few clicks.
@e_mydata@gael@murena is this still correct? It’s just that you’ve removed the #fairphone5 from your list of devices supported by the easy installer, and I’m a bit concerned to read about some ‘hard bricked’ fairphones from people who have tried to install /e/os themselves.
I’ve just bought a Fairphone 5 and really don’t want to use android, but I don’t want to brick my device either
We've tagged version 0.0.5 of gmobile (a small library for glib based mobile Linux projects).
Among other changes it adds support for the #FairPhone5's notch and updates the #FairPhone4's information. This will help #phosh to handle UI element placement for these devices automatically.
Thanks @awai , @z3ntu and Jan Beich for the contributions.
