In 1986 I was learning some BASIC on a BBC Micro as part of a once-a-week (I think) school class about computers. Who would’ve thought then that my career would be based on a worldwide network of computers, which hadn’t yet been invented. Back then, there were more career prospects from my Geography class. #GenXhttps://botsin.space/@computerchroniclesbot/112140880400118138
From the very 1st episode of Emu's All Live Pink Windmill Show, broadcast on Friday, 13th July, 1984, this is a rendition of Can't Stop the Music, originally by the Village People. Not bad at all, especially considering this was the first time most if not all of them had ever danced on live national television (the bits in the studio, obviously). Being the series opener, the kids introduce themselves at the beginning. https://youtu.be/1svA2sGhDEE?si=MzmyYPvCqsYoM15Q
"The forecast is grim - it's called aging, men! Enjoy The Weather Girls' classic song, It's Raining Men, with a new twist - whether you spell it as aging or ageing - it's on its way!"
My elbow creases are now sweating. Guess my #menopause sweat zones have expanded! I haven't sweated there before, in my entire life, til today. The unwanted joys of menopause include your body suddenly making you super hot n shiny - just not in magazine cover girl ways & never on any schedules.
A thing about #VideoGames I think of now and again:
I am anticipating a possible middle-future cultural phenomenon where a ton of people, starting with #GenX-ers, express that they love video games and want to play more but they're getting too old for them. That is, their eyesight and reflexes and so on begin to drop below the threshold to enjoy them, en masse.
This hasn't been a problem with other mass-cultural media before, right? You generally don't get too old for books or movies and such.
“Hoping for the best but expecting the worst; are you gonna drop the bomb or not?” … is there a lyric that sums up the #GenX experience more than this?
I must have blocked it out at the time, but I am gonna need an immediate explanation as to why Peter Cetera is wearing a Bauhaus t-shirt in the video for "You're the Inspiration".
#GenX did you ever play strip poker? Is that still a thing for people of a certain age? Or level of sobriety?
My Gen z kids were horrified to learn such a thing existed.🤣
