Odda's Chapel, Deerhurst. This is all and

https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/oddas-chapel/

This little chapel is one of the most complete Saxon churches surviving in England. It was built in 1056 so is pre-Norman. In the C17th it was incorporated into a farmhouse, because why wouldn't you?

No internal shots because it's not dramatic internally but if like me all your spidey senses start screaming in old bldgs then there's a lot to see.

Odda's Chapel, Deerhurst. View showing the opposite side of the Saxon chapel adjoining the timbered C17th farmhouse.

A historic view that is no longer. This is a power plant along Lake Springfield in Springfield, Missouri that was demolished in Feb 2022. I took this in Feb 2021 while standing on the frozen lake.

Whispers of history echo through the ornate facades of Paris, where every balcony tells a tale of timeless elegance.

’s last free-standing synagogue, one of the most unique buildings in Detroit, just completed a $5.4 million renovation.

Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue.

And the building looks great.

It is absolutely wonderful that these institutions and community staples are doubling down on Detroit’s future.

We need more of this.

This map from Historic Environment Scotland gives you an idea of just quite how many important historic buildings there are in Glasgow.

Pink dots: C Listed Buildings; Blue dots: B Listed Buildings; Red dots: A Listed Buildings.

In my opinion, there are also other important building which are not yet listed so the actual number will be even greater than this map suggests.

Protecting all these buildings is a a mammoth task, and it's one that Glasgow City Council, the Scottish Government and the Westminster Government, regardless of their political persuasions, need to work together to achieve.

If they don't we risk losing way too many of these building and once a building is lost, you can never get it back. To lose a building forever is to lose part of our collective history and we are all worse off whenever this happens.

Happy !

Here we are with another edition of Adam Around - and, like last time, with 3 currently unoccupied buildings.

But as opposed to last time, these buildings likely have a soon-to-be bright future.

First up, is the Detroit Life Building on Park Avenue: https://historicdetroit.org/buildings/detroit-life-building

This building is planned to be renovated into residential units under the so-called "District Detroit" project which has received significant city and state financial backing.
