Always worth remembering this. Saw this sign last weekend at Middle East Bakery in Andersonville, Chicago. It is a great Arabic grocery store with a small restaurant attached to it. They make many things fresh, including some good spice mixes.
I took a pre-dawn drive through rural Will County (south of Chicago) this morning. Lots of great old barns and so many stars. After desperately seeking rural illumination, when the sun finally rose, it felt like an embarrassment of riches, in terms of light and color.
I drove through Dolton, IL today for work. I wanted to find some of the mayor's billboards and portraits posted around town to snap some cell phone pics for historical purposes, but I had a tight schedule, so I didn't get to explore.
We went out for shopping on #Saturday. Met up with a friend and went to Thaliva Indian Kitchen in Park Ridge. It is a place we have been wanting to go to for a while after someone told us it some of the best South Indian in #Chicagoland. We got dosas and finished the day with a South Indian Filter Coffee. Worth a trip out on the Metra!
Taken at Patel Brothers on Devon Avenue during one of our frequent trips to get good food and groceries. Since I started posting here, I notice certain things more often and this photo just struck me.
The #Illinois Responsible Outdoor Lighting Control Act has been passed by the state Senate and House of Representatives. Now it's on to @govpritzker for his signature.
A dangerous thing to see when walking by the craft beer shop on my way home. Tried a taste of Dovetail's new pils - I think I might have to go try it more at their brewery around the corner.
"Bill mandating climate change education in #Illinois heads to Gov. Pritzker’s desk

It would require schools teach students about climate change’s environmental and ecological impacts on individuals and communities and look at potential solutions to mitigate its impact."
This July, my alma mater, Univ of Illinois, is hosting a five-day workshop on open science and research software engineering
The workshop focuses on helping early-career researchers (e.g, grad students, post-docs) level up from capable programmers to rock stars of accessible, open science
Best of all it's being organized by the brilliant Madicken Munk!
Oh, did I mention... it's free!
Application deadline is June 6th. Spread the word!
#Illinois School Districts Sent Kids to a For-Profit Out-of-State Facility That Isn’t Vetted or Monitored
A state #law was meant to help #families by allowing the use of public money to fund students’ tuition at special education boarding #schools around the country.
But in solving one problem, lawmakers created another.
