Various – More Coffee For The Politicians (Phoenix Underground Music Compilation #3)
Placebo Records, 1985

Regionally focused comps were super helpful back before the internet. Best way to focus on a specific scene.

This one has a nice variety of musical styles. It's #3 in a series from Placebo spotlighting the Phoenix Scene (e.g. "This Is Phoenix, Not The Circle Jerks" and "Amuck").

There's a white paper insert with some Placebo Records and their respective prices listed. It's an order form you'd mail in.

Back album with red filtered image of a coffee cup and saucer. Blue text overlaid listing each track. Below is a white paper insert with black text. This is an order form

I mentioned Bingo Boys' 2023 record 'Freak Out & Leave' in February, how I was upset I somehow missed it last year. They're from Indianapolis, Indiana and make some incredible catchy, melodic psych-ish garage/punk.

I've been going through their back catalog today and they don't even have bad songs. 🤯

Bingo Boys put out a couple singles this/last year which are unfortunately only on Spotify, but Bandcamp has several of theirs too- ALL good: https://bingoboys.bandcamp.com

a straight up feel good banger of a record from 2023 that you may have noticed already because I never shut the hell up about it last year, Gee Tee's 'Goodnight Neanderthal'

Listening to Jason Loewenstein's 2017 solo record Spooky Action again today as I often do, yknow, just because it's one of the greatest damn albums ever recorded

Quick introduction now that I've moved to Mastodon Music.

Swiss-based musician - bass, guitar, key, vocals of varying competencies. Played in Sydney in the 80s, Brisbane in the 90s, Myspace in the 00s + a rogue folk-acoustic set somewhere in there, nothing at all in the 10s!, and now active again. Several solo, collaborative and band activities locally and in Australia.

Also trying to recover all my old friends after the unexpected move, so boosts appreciated.

Too much cool new shit, that's my favorite luxury problem and it's what the past few weeks had in store, so a C-90 won't suffice this time. That, and also i totally had to add a ten-minute tune to the tracklist because why the fuck not? Dial A for fuzzed-out depravity and general mayhem. B for egg-ish dementia, quirky and forbidden fun and games for the whole family. C for darkness, death and despair. D for some beeps & bloops, followed by hits, hooks and melodies.

– Untame the Tiger (2024). guitarist/ singer-songwriter Timony hasn't cut a solo album in 19 years, remaining active in a gaggle of groups, including Ex Hex. Here, Timony shows herself as one of the best-kept secrets in rock.

The album combines power pop with sparse acoustic material, lyrically touching on grief (both her parents died during the making of the album) without sounding aggrieved. Ex-Fairport Convention Dave Mattacks drums on several tracks.

Early this year I posted a link to the 'Emails' video by Memphis' Tennessee's BLUFF CITY VICE but I never linked to their new full BANGER of an album that came out in January.

I listen to this constantly. It'll definitely be in my top 20 favorite albums of 2024 -- and somewhere near the top of the list. These dudes make LEGIT electro-punk. This is some of my favorite kind of stuff (and the kind of stuff I write and make myself, actually).

Behold, the 2024 masterpiece that is 'S2PID': https://bluffcityvice.bandcamp.com/album/s2pid

It was a dark and stormy morning... and it made me want to listen to Interpol. Highlights from 2018's Marauder album include "The Rover" & "Flight of Fancy". @vinylrecords

Random good song. Not metal. "Worm" is just a little over 7 minutes of some VERY catchy, cool & spacey psych rock by Indiana band Cairo Jag.

Dain Bramage – “I Scream Not Coming Down” (1986)

Bob Fartblossom, aka Bob Durkee, was a kind of local underground celeb where I grew up. After putting out releases from his own band (Pillsbury Hardcore) he started his own label and put out bands like Justice League, Three Day Stubble, and Subculture. I’d buy pretty much anything on the label in the mid to late 80s.

This has become a bit of a novelty item since it’s Dave Grohl’s first band.

Comes with glossy fold-out insert with photos, and “thanks” list, a postcard, and the text "David Grohl destroys Tama drums exclusively” in the lower left corner.

Also, engraved on one side's runoff is the message "Everything Matters" while on the other side is etched "Time Doesn't Matter".

Back cover featuring picture of a long haired dude with eyes half open, over a table with cigarette butts. Below we see the paper insert with pictures of the band. Dave Grohl is skinny and wearing a baseball cap
