Yesterday I came home from South #Karelia#Finland. It was hard to work remotely and take care of my #mother who now has #dementia. We are still waiting for the final diagnosis. I took my mother to see my #father who lives in an #Alzheimer's home. This photo melts my heart. My father didn't know who I was. He said I'm human. That's right. But he remembers my mother.

It seems that more and more regions in #Russia wants an independents from #Kremlin#Moscow and one of the groups are working for an independent #Karelia not just the current borders but areas that are culturally tied.
This is called Karjalan raanu (#Karelian tapestry). My mother has made it and I have it in my living room's wall (even if my twin sister says it's really old fashioned. I don't care.) It's a traditional heavy woven rug used as a bed cover and a wall textile in #Karelia where I was born. #karjala#finland#suomimastodon
