When Kyle Rittenhouse came to Kent State: A report by Palast Investigative Fund fellow Zach D. The very first memory that I can recall is watching Star Wars: A New Hope. That opening scene with the large ship being chased by a larger ship implanted a love for science fiction that has remained with me for the rest of my life.
As much as I love the original Star Wars Trilogy:
A New Hope
The Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
All of those films were supplanted by Rogue One, which I was hooked on based upon the second trailer.
What I enjoyed most about Rogue One was the fact it was an actual war movie instead of a political family movie (which is what most Star Wars films are).
There were also no official Jedi in the movie, & you really witnessed a ferocious side of Darth Vader that was (in hindsight) strangely absent in the original trilogy.
Also, you got a sense that the stakes were ultimately higher in this film, & the theme was much simpler: sacrificing for a better future.
