User Experience idea: have ZSA and JetBrains work together. When customizing my Moonlander Layout, I want to assign the icons in PhpStorm to my keymaps. e.g. the stop listening to Debug connection would be assigninable to a Moonlander key.

When working with PestPHP I was always annoyed that PhpStorm didn't simplify the imported namespace and didn't offer to simplify the FQN of Facades.

First one is a setting:
Editor > General > Auto Import > PHP > Enable auto-import in file scope

Second one can be fixed, by disabling all aliases in a Laravel app by setting 'aliases' => [] in config/app.php.

I just need to get over setting that up. Any tips? Is it just adding languages.toml to my helix directory?

@codemonkeymike It’s not open source, but the best IDE I can recommend for working with is . It’s really been a game changer for me.

If you are running and there is an awesome plugin: https://github.com/php-perfect/ddev-intellij-plugin use it and throw a few Coins at Nico!

saw a colleague of mine coding on VsCode today

so yeah, once you have spent a couple of hours searching and installing plugins (hardest part being to find the good one) it works, kinda...

but it remains a shiny text editor IMHO
definitely missing the power of a real IDE and there is like NO BLOODY WAY I'm leaving for that

granted, launching a project or building an index takes a little time
but it is by far compensated by the productivity it offers

Switching back-and-forth between and for the same project (so I can use intellisense and syntax highlighting on .php and .phpt files) is a pain in the ass, and for some reason, it corrupts the .idea folder, so I have to keep deleting it and letting the IDEs recreate it.

Night rant because I can't sleep.

But I frankly wonder why I bother trying to improve the semantics of when it seems people don't give a fuck and just want crap not actually implemented in any sensible way, just so they can feel like they are working with a "real" programming.

It honestly tilts me that people want to make the language more inconsistent and shit just for some minor DX that one could achieve by building tooling in PHP.

chrastecky,
@chrastecky@phpc.social avatar

@Girgias @Crell I mean, would I prefer runtime checked generics? Yes. Would I want to pay the performance price? No. Would I accept runtime-erased generics as a compromise? Yeah.

Honestly, if there was support for that in , I don't care whether it's part of language, or as attributes (I hate using phpdoc for that, though) via some 3rd party library. Consistent IDE support (and static analysis) is way more important to me.

The way PhpStorm deals with imported typedefs (eg importing from a declaration file) leaves something to be desired.

Right now intellisense just doesn't really work, though validation does.

Maybe I'm missing some kind of config or just doing it wrong or something?

OMG...
just discovered by accident that has full openapi support since version 2023.2 through Redocly

all you have to do is open an openapi spec (JSON or YAML) in PHPStorm

about the "Go to Test" action in . In the menu bar:

Navigate > Goto by Reference Actions > Go to Test

You can use it to jump between the file under (unit) test and the test file itself.

Looking at the reviews for GitHub CoPilot integration with PHPStorm. Seeing lots of reviews that it pales in comparison to the VSCode plugin.

I won't change IDEs.

So:

  1. Is it worth buying copilot?

  2. is there another AI coding tool that works better with PHPStorm?

Did recently change the way it connects to when executing tests from PhpStorm? I’m no longer able to get the debugger panel to work for a project that I’ve never had a problem using Xdebug in.
