"...solar roof tiles are solar panels that look like roof tiles.... Much like solar panels, they comprise semi-conducting materials that generate an electric charge and send it to an inverter and eventually a home and/or solar battery.

Unlike bolted-on roof panels, they take the place of the tiling on the roof and become part of the structure of the home."

We're experiencing the first power outage since we installed our system.
We've got 28% of the battery left and the panels are now producing 1 kW while the house is consuming 200 W (the heat pump is not backed up), so we're fine for the time being.
We wouldn't even notice the outage if the carpenters hadn't plugged the fridge into the socket for the oven that was not supposed to be backed up. 🤦

2023 was the first full year for our home system (8.65 kWp):
🌞🔌 Total energy produced - 8.52 MWh (5.64 MWh used in the house, 2.88 MWh sent to the grid)
🌞🔌 Total energy consumed - 9.57 MWh (3.93 MWh from the grid).
🌞💶 Electricity bill reduced by almost 60%.
🌞💶 Total money saved/generated - €1820.
🌞🌲 4.6 tons of CO2 saved.

The current status of the #reconstruction of my #homestudio. The #acousticmodule (s) and the cabling for the #tabletop #synthesizer (s) are still to be done. But soon after that, I plan to ceremoniously run #power to the system for the first time. 🥳
I already have a 1000 watt #ups setup to intercept #powercut (s) that have become more frequent recently. We may have to invest in a #photovoltaic system in the future. 🤔 #babystep (s)

🌞 🔌 Today our home has reached 10 MWh of production since installation (8/22). This corresponds to about 5 tons of CO2 saved.

On July 14, I wrote that we had broken even on power, we had consumed as much electricity as we had produced this year. The surplus we built up during the rest of the summer is now gone. We broke even again at 8.41 MWh.

At the end of the year, we'll have a deficit of ~1 MWh which I think is great since it's a 220m2 house with everything on electricity.

Does anyone know a solar contractor in western Iowa or eastern Nebraska?

I have rooftop PV panels with a grid intertie. I'd like to be freestanding, off the grid, and lose the arbitrary grid connection charges.

September was surprisingly the best month in terms of self-sufficiency so far. Our home covered 96% of our consumption, we only needed 30 kWh from the grid.

May was a great month for our system. The total production was 1.24 MWh (an amount of energy that would power an EV for ~8000 km), it reduced our consumption from the grid by 90% and the surplus we sold to the grid was 580 kWh.

The price of in has been quite something. Last summer it was climbing to €1000/MWh, now it's very often below zero during the day. Yes, you have to pay someone to consume it.

I'm glad I've got a home system primarily for environmental and self-sustainability reasons because any ROI calculation is basically impossible.
