"If there was any doubt remaining that Alberta's nearly seven-month moratorium on renewable-energy projects was a political decision — made in the halls of power rather than in the offices of expertise — it was erased by internal documents released to the public last week."

Batteries are growing on the grid to handle evening power use surges when solar peters out. California just hit 7GW out of 10GW capacity. Our house is battery powered from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will be part of a virtual power plant soon.

Today batteries help with daily peak shaving; longer gaps in solar/wind production are harder. could help with that but is only one part of the overall solution. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/05/07/climate/battery-electricity-solar-california-texas.html

Introducing the world's first steel produced without using fossil fuels. As a significant contributor to emissions, this breakthrough is critically important.

There are numerous solutions available to address the climate crisis. Let's implement them.

I'm sure I'm not the only person in the world who has solar panels on their roofs who has wasted quite some time in the mornings watching the magic of the power coming on.

This smugness is matched by looking back at a bell curve graph of production for the day where you've used up almost everything that the panels have produced and yet drawn almost nothing from the grid.

The world’s largest wind turbine manufacturer — Vestas — will use recycled steel for turbines that will power 1.5 million homes! 👏

Use of recycled steel will reduce pollution created along the supply chain by 66% (compared to traditional turbine models).

Pair this with the ability of Carbon Rivers — a company that can recycle ALL wind turbines — and we’re starting to see potential circularity emerge!

Solar energy is now being installed faster than any other energy technology in history! 🎉

By 2031, solar is projected to surpass ALL COMBINED forms of energy technology, which is actually amazing, even as a proponent of renewables.

Solar installation is 10-fold higher than 10 years ago and is doubling every 3 years.

Truly wonderful news! Some nice charts below to show the growth and comparative build out too.

This is compelling market-based evidence that solar PV and wind are the best options for new capacity. New solar capacity is being installed faster than anything else in history“

Wow! Kiss coal goodbye: the G7 countries reached a deal to shut down their coal-fired power plants in the first half of the 2030s 👏

~16% of the G7’s⚡️comes from coal.

This agreement is due to be finalized tomorrow.

There are also rumors the G7 may also announce soon a plan for a a six-fold increase in battery capacity in order to onboard more renewable energy !

The Act directs the state treasurer to work with climate scientists to catalog the damage Vermont has seen due to between 1995 and 2024 — and what it will cost to adapt to a warmer future with more volatile weather.

If the bill becomes law, could start to seek damages in 2027."
