“This process began with Catalina's release in 2019, when Apple retired support for PostScript Type 1 fonts in favor of OpenType. Adobe itself followed suit by eliminating Type 1 font support in Photoshop in 2021.
“The removal accelerated with the release of macOS Monterey 12.3, when Apple pulled the ability for PostScript files to be viewed inline. And in macOS Ventura, the Preview application removed PostScript conversion support.”
@ianbetteridge R.I.P. John! With the somewhat re-interest/renaissance in #Forth and other related concatenative langs, I sometimes wonder why there also isn't more of that happening for #PostScript... "MODULAR MATTER is the attempt to re-think desktop publishing through the concept of modular synthesis. The outcome is a tool with several independent and combinable hardware modules, each of them performing a specific operation with an operation-specific physical interface. MODULAR MATTER can be played like an instrument in order to generate unexpected printed outcome. The process of making the tool as well as the unfamiliar experience of using the tool hopefully sparks critical conversations around tool ecologies and helps to break open engrained ways of working."
