Ugh. #Running a half marathon tomorrow and we have to be at the buses by 4:30 am
Yes I'm a morning person, but it seems cruel for my alarm to say 8 hours and 53 minutes when i set it at 6:30 the day before.
Thank goodness I'm not doing the full. They have to be there an hour earlier.
One Man’s Mission to Make Running Everyone’s Sport
Martinus Evans wants to make running more inclusive. His new book beckons back-of-the-packers to lace up.
Day 49 of #Running recovery break. 25 KM of #Cycling in the heat, followed by about 5km of walking; humidex was already 30°C when I got back in a bit after 9am. If this keeps up, I'll have to start looking at a way to get out earlier. 🤷🏻
If you #run in the #ShenandoahNationalPark, and support #LGBTQ+ rights, please consider patronizing Before & After Cafe in Sperryville, VA.
The owner recently received an unsigned letter from a disappointed customer. The customer took issue with him wearing a shirt that said "Protect Trans Kids," claiming it was offensive to the families and children at the cafe.
The cafe's owner posted a copy of the letter to FB, so it isn't any kind of secret he supports the rights of trans humans.
Also, they make pretty good sandwiches.
(Edit: Or #hike in the SNP. I always forget people hike, too.)
I'm sure it won't mean all that much to the hardcore runners, but I've stepped up my weekday #running in the gym from 5k to 10k and it's made quite a massive difference. I'm fitter than I've been in ages and feel tremendous. I've just finished a sesh and genuinely think I might now be immortal.
When you #exercise, it's normal to have thoughts like “This is hard” or “I can’t keep going."
This author, a #physician and a #runner, writes: "But these are just thoughts— neurochemical phenomena regarding a future that does not exist and will never exist."
Day 48 of #Running recovery break. Today was 50KM of #Cycling through #Ottawa; it was already too hot out (Humidex of 30°C) by the time I got home. Good ride. #OttBike
First workout in the month of June. Run/walk of 3.77 miles. 2 1/2 minute warmup to begin and then 5/6 minute run/walk intervals. Very warm this morning, much more so than is has been all spring. VO2 max of 33.9, a new high. Power average down, pace slower, heart rate slightly higher than last Thursday (same distance). But I had a slightly longer warmup today due to a technical malfunction. 150/130 spm on the intervals. Good workout. Very sweaty afterwards. Hot! 🏃♂️🥵😎#fitby60#fitness#running
My foot hurts. Probably from running too much. I know I should take a break but it is so difficult not to go for a run as soon as possible.
Maybe I'll jump on my bike this weekend for a bit of crosstraining instead.
How do you people deal with overtraining health issues?
All things being relative, this is absolutely flying for me. 😃 One of those runs where you feel great from the outset and feel even stronger as your body warms up. #running
To my #Running and #Cycling people, I think I'm done with Strava now. As I think about all the gobs of data I've been giving them that they no doubt have been doing something with, and what I get from them (maps, “awards”, and connections to people), I've come to the realization that I don't really need Strava anymore. The community I was looking for is here, on #Mastodon, so why support them? I’ll give it a week or two and make a final decision then, but I think that ship has sailed for me.
I am putting a strong emphasis on #running form starting this week. Today's run was done entirely with a metronome in my ears so I could focus on cadence.
The RunKeeper app showed a pace 5 steps/minute slower. (Had the metronome at 180, I kept it going really tight, and it showed 175). Can their algorithm be off, or conservative??
Whoooooooop I just ran 5k on the treadmill! I haven’t run that far continuously for about 15 years! Annoyingly though I came in 8 seconds slower than when I run half and walk half, which just shows you how slowly I run (or how fast I walk 😹). Never mind, my goal for the race, which is in 3 weeks and 2 days, was just to be able to run the course without stopping and now I think I can 😃 #running
#Running update: I gave up on my Garmin Coach 10k plan, not because it was bad, but because it was suggesting too high of an increase of mileage. So today I did a Suggested Workout instead, which suggested 16 minutes at threshold pace (with a 10min warmup & cooldown). Whew boy. I couldn't hang on to threshold the entire time, had to walk three times for about a minute each time. Definitely a jolt to the ol' butt this morning though.
Day 47 of #Running recovery break. 26km of #Cycling in Ottawa, got out when it was 12°C, and I know I'm going to regret the travel to my 1pm today. At least there's dinner at Koven to look forward to!
It’s been a good month for running. Steady pacing combined with speed work continues to see an improvement in my cardio fitness with VO₂ max levels breaking the 49 mark.
119km for the month; no niggles or twinges to report; warmer, brighter mornings, and a run in London with a friend from Uni made for a rather marvellous May!
