For #InternationalWomensDay a funerary stela of a female #physician. In the Inscription she is referred to as MEDICA. This is not the only #Roman female doctor we know. There is quite a few literary and epigraphic evidence for female physicians in the ancient world.
Warning. Disturbing content that might be triggering.
Some doctors working for the CIA at Guantanamo Bay authorized horrible things to be done to prisoners. Their identities are not known.
Posting this because these nameless #doctors may now have practices elsewhere. The authors of this paper say any CIA #medical officers who authorized or participated in these acts "cannot be entrusted to protect the welfare of patients once they return to civilian positions."
They add "At the very least, professional medical organizations must insist that federal officials, including #Congress, identify the medical officers (including any who may have been #physicians, #physician assistants, and #nurses) who participated".
Tomorrow is the Thanksgiving Holiday here in the United States. This holiday is fraught with historical and cultural difficulties.
Being in gratitude itself is a beautiful, calming, and yet energizing state. So it’s worth dedicating some time to appreciate the people, places, conditions, and activities for which you feel grateful.
I love all the diversity and representation in Star Trek! It's fun watching bigots squirm. I'd much rather they reflect on their bigoted opinions, and strive to better themselves. But if they refuse to do that, then watching them squirm is the next best thing. #StarTrek
But it's vulnerable to this objection (which the authors would probably concede): "The results…should be taken with a grain of salt. It's not clear how robust the algorithm is against studies that have been lightly edited by humans despite being written mostly by #ChatGPT." https://www.theregister.com/2023/06/08/scientists_ai_recognition/
Obtaining #insurance approval to deliver life-saving care now very often requires the treating #physician to argue with the insurance company's physician.
Soon, it will require arguing with the insurance company's #chatbot.
When you #exercise, it's normal to have thoughts like “This is hard” or “I can’t keep going."
This author, a #physician and a #runner, writes: "But these are just thoughts— neurochemical phenomena regarding a future that does not exist and will never exist."
