It covers everything from the history of scicomm to press releases, #SocialMedia, #science shows, risk communication, engaging with policy makers, language, you name it... Highly recommended!
For my outreach account on instagram, I am running an advent calendar introducing an #exoplanet a day. I call this calendar #ExoAdvent and figured I could share it here too! ⭐️ 🌎 🪐
We continue with another exotic exoplanet! HD 80606 b is an exoplanet in a highly eccentric orbit around its host star, which causes extreme temperature variations.
Caught in the act! PDS 70 b is a young exoplanet which is currently undergoing formation. This means we do not only observe the planet, but also the so-called protoplanetary disc, the disc around the star that hosts the material that eventually forms the planets.
They come in all shapes and sizes! We already know that there a few very large and hot exoplanets out there, but WASP-103 b is a special one. The so-called tidal deformation is so strong that the planet appears to have more the shape of a rugby ball 🏉
And if you want to know what work lies behind creating our #ESAEuclid first full-colour images - and actually all science images in the future - here's an explainer video from our Youtube channel:
With the reveal of the first full-colour images of #ESAEuclid
👉🏻 only 2️⃣ days away
(did we mention that already? 😉 )
if you want to read up on the scientific and technical background of the #Euclid mission, the spacecraft 🛰️ , the instruments 📷 and science 👩🏾🔬 , we recommend our #EuclidConsortium website:
These images will feature combined data from both of #Euclid's instruments, the VIS visible instrument and the near-infrared spectrometer and photometer NISP.
Coming Tuesday, 7 November, #ESA will release the first full-colour, full-resolution images of #ESAEuclid. We did indeed mention that before in the last days. #countdown
👉 6️⃣ days to go
Here is how you will be able to view the release webcast, 7 November at 14:15 CET, 13:15 GMT:

until #ESA will release the first full-colour, full-resolution images from #ESAEuclid's "Early Release Observation" programme. We showed images before, the #Euclid "First Light" 🛰️ 💡 engineering images, 3 months ago, with all instrument effects and cosmic ray hits still in them. This is what they were:
Attention #science#media and #journalists: #press event for release of the first full-colour images of the #ESAEuclid mission, Tuesday, 7. November. Registration deadline for media event at #ESOC (Darmstadt, Germany) and remote attendance is Friday 3. November:
Correctly name (genus) all 6 super-giant sauropods and I'll put your name in a hat to win a copy of the book with a sketch in it. Deadline is Oct 31. Post your answers below or DM me.

@badlogic There are also many people who would love their posts to be openly readable - communicators of science, emergency info, & many more. This was the case with Twitter pre-Musk: anyone could read all posts using a profile or hashtag URL. Seeing many of these posts disappear to walled gardens is a shame/ scary, but many are uncomfortable here & value WYSIWYG ease-of-use... can we read their #Bluesky posts in original format? #RSS?
@trishgreenhalgh fyi! RSS works very well with blogposts, not so well suited here with all the replies... better than nothing but I'd much rather you continue to post here on the #Fediverse, where everyone can read, at least for substantive messages?
Today's random portfolio artwork post is "In the Wake of Colossus," one of my paintings from Locked in Time, written by Dr Dean Lomax (the colour version is from the Korean translation). Featured are a passing herd of Mamenchisaurus, Guanlong, and some unfortunate Limusaurus stuck in the mud. There is fossil evidence for this – check out the book!
Today's random portfolio artwork post is a fishy mural I painted for The Children's Museum of Indianapolis (human shape added for scale). It's a Western Interior Seaway scene featuring Squalicorax (#shark), Tusoteuthis (#squid), an octopod (in the shark's mouth), and a school of Apsopelix #fish.
