Umm... Is the follow requests list broken on #sharkey? I had two follow requests from @digikitty_x86 's deleted alts and they're still there, even trying to accept/reject, turning follow requests off and on.
Last post from me this lunchtime before I get distracted by something shiooooooohhhhh....
Unusually, Sharkey comes with Steam/Xbox style Achievements that are won when you reach certain milestones. I'm...unsure what to think about this. I can see how it might help someone brand new acclimatise, but I've a farly ambivalent view of Achievements in Gaming generally. They rarely correspond to things that feel like actual achievements. Some games hand them out like candy: "Achivement! You have played the game for five minutes!"
Some of these here feel similarly...basic. It's just endorphine-triggering reward psycho-manipulation, isnt it?
But then there's...this [bottom of image]: Just Plain Lucky, achieved for apparently achieving a random probability scoring? That's just great. 😆 That tickles my sense of humour, being daft enough that I can be proud of it! Do more of this, please, and less of the "Hooray you can use a mouse!" type.
PS: sometimes you eagerly reach for a screen-shot and then dismay kicks in when you realise how much typing you have to do to explain it for those with sight issues. 🥴 Nevertheless....
been trying out #iceshrimp on a very nice instance - so far the differences might be too subtle for me to really recognize, but it does work very (maybe a little moreso than firefish) smoothly.
Oooh I’m liking the #sharkey update. So far I’m noticing that it merges all the likes from one post into a single combined notification in my notifications tab. I really like that :neocat_3c:
We had quite a bit of this here at blahaj.zone back on #Calckey 14 when our MAU rose considerably. A move to #Iceshrimp didn't help. Trying to cut down costs by moving hosting introduced more unforeseen issues. We've lost a fair few people but we're more stable now. We're looking at moving to the #Sharkey fork of #Misskey v13 (which itself is a major revision & rewrite and not compatible with FF/IS) which seems to scale well by the looks of the massive instances that run it. But all this has been a big downer, and a lot of downtime. The reality is English-language forks of Misskey have never been tested at scale and when things go wrong trying to any documentation is difficult and most likely in Japanese. They've usually just commenced with a small single instance with some non-stock features added. I hope our eventual move to Sharkey doesn't come with a similar surprise, but seeing it sticks closely to upstream Misskey I think it might be ok.
I'm definitely moving away from #Firefish (@irfan) and making this #Sharkey instance my new home. Most of my exports have finally completed (why does it take so long even just to export small following lists and such?), and I'm just waiting for my notes/posts export to hopefully complete sooner than later since I heard that migrating away from FF would cause you to lose access to the account or something like that? Idk sounds kinda weird and complicated. Happy to be moving, and happy to see others have moved too from such a dumpster fire of an instance of an otherwise neat service/project.
What’s a good #Sharkey client on #iOS? It almost seemed like I was able to log into my instance on #IceCubes but it kept just pushing me back after the consent release. The #PWA works really, really well though and is actually better looking vs #Firefish.
Trying out #Sharkey after seeing a post about it from @irfan
I didn't know this was forked off Misskey. The other fish software feels so much slower wtf I thought Misskey was the bloated one???
Dude, #Sharkey/#KitsuClub is phenomenal for 2 reasons: I can create posts, and I can see posts on my timeline instead of an orange fish telling me an error had occurred. Incredible.
I've created an account on #KitsuClub/#Sharkey (@irfan). It looks just like #Firefish but a little prettier by default and so much snappier which is SO fucking jarring ngl. Doesn't seem like it supports importing posts/notes though which is gonna suck if I decide to make a complete move :( Though I can probably live with that. Better than seeing internal server errors all day.
Is #Sharkey any good? Looking into several #Firefish instances to migrate to and stumbled upon #KitsuClub in the Firefish server list, despite kitsunes.club being based on Sharkey, not Firefish. First glance, Sharkey looks pretty promising - not sure how stable/reliable it is though vs Firefish or they're all just the same. Also, not sure how compatible it is between the two (i.e. if I can migrate all of my content over, as I expect I would be able to moving to another Firefish server).
UPDATE: Sharkey is AMAZING, so please follow me there @irfan thank you <3
Rant.lol is a Sharkey instance. Sharkey is the newest fork of Misskey (forked from a newer codebase than Firefish or any others) that aims to do what Firefish and Iceshrmp are already doing...but better/differently. I'm very impressed with it so far and also, pay attention to this bit, believe it might be my pick for the future of *Key forks.
I've a steadily firming opinion that anything based on the Misskey v12 codebase might struggle to scale upwards unless they take the leap to the new v13 codebase, as Sharkey has done. We've seen Blahaj struggling with outages at various points recently, and Firefish.social has been very similar; from my lay perspective I am coming to understand this as a fundamental issue of the codebase itself manifesting for any instance with a large user base. Misskey itself was apparently struggling before they addressed the back-end issues for v13.
Blahaj.zone is already running a test server of Sharkey to evaluate it. Watch this space.
What I'm seeing on Rant.lol is delightful, and I'll talk more about it at a future point.
What do you Sharkey users think if we replace the default funky looking error images with fluent emojis like it is done on https://rant.lol or the dev instance https://dev.joinsharkey.org for the future release
What I really like about #Sharkey, is the post notification feature from the user that I subscribed! I used this a lot when I was using Mastodon but I am glad to use it again on Sharkey :neofox_heart:
And it needs only two tap once I bring an account's profile on screen!
